The Supportive Housing Program of House of Friendship provides affordable permanent housing for those living on low income who may have experienced homelessness. The program includes on-site supports to maintain independent living. The successful candidate will provide overnight support to the clients at the program and complete regular rounds of the property and buildings.

** This is a permanent, salaried, full-time (37.5 hours per week) position with paid sick time, personal days and vacation; group health benefits and defined contribution pension plan.

This is an awake position. Schedule will be five (5) overnight shifts per week, Sunday to Thursday.
Shifts will be 10pm to 6am or 11pm to 7am.

A satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Police Records Check (processed within the last 6 months) will be required. **

Key Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for connecting with tenants as the sole staff person on shift
  • Establish and maintain a helping relationship with tenants
  • Completing regular checks of buildings to ensure safety of tenants
  • Ensuring that individuals are not loitering on property
  • Administrative tasks
Skills & Experience:
  • Previous experience working in security of at least 1-2 years
  • Previous experience in a social service environment is preferred
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills
  • Knowledge of addictions and recovery issues
  • Ability to work independently, with minimal supervision
  • Health and social services training important
  • Commitment to team approach
  • Passion to support people living on a low income with support needs including mental health and addiction challenges
  • Commitment to understand and uphold the mission and values of House of Friendship is expected
  • Exemplary emotional intelligence, resilience, communication, conflict management and problem solving skills required
  • Ability to work professionally as a team member with staff, participants and community members
  • Experience or strong interest in working with diverse populations including people from various cultural backgrounds, income levels, and sensitivity to their needs
  • Experience with and commitment to using an anti-racism, anti-oppressive and trauma informed approach to consultation, program design, evaluations of processes and service delivery
  • Must be dependable, professional, flexible, a team player, and have a positive attitude
  • Respectful, supportive and engaging approach to persons with physical and/or cognitive disabilities, addictions, mental illness and other life challenges
  • Excellent project, timeline and deadline management skills including skills in logistics, planning and detailed record keeping
Compensation:

o We use a 3.5:1 ratio meaning that the highest paid team member is not paid more than 3.5 times than the lowest paid team member

At House of Friendship all compensation ranges are categorized under a series of \xe2\x80\x9cgrades\xe2\x80\x9d and we base our payment structure on internal equity. When determining rate of pay, a candidate\xe2\x80\x99s past related experience will be taken into consideration along with where others with similar experience are currently on the pay grid.

Grade: 4

Min: $21.53

Mid: $24.93

Max: $28.33

Working Conditions:
  • 37.5 hours per week; overnight shifts
  • Sunday to Thursday, from 10pm to 6am or 11pm to 7am
  • Encountering participants at program sites who may be under the influence of drugs or alcohol, and/or experiencing symptoms of mental illness can be expected
