DescriptionThe Mobile Outreach Worker will provide support and service to the community through \xe2\x80\x9cOperation Mobilizing Hope\xe2\x80\x9d and deliver food assistance to those in need.KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:Training

  • Coordinate Food Safety - including Food Handler Course training for volunteers and staff.
  • Monitor volunteer services to ensure consistency with program criteria.
  • Train volunteers to perform duties required for the Operation Mobilizing Hope program.
  • Coordinate driver training when necessary.
Practical
  • Coordinate and schedule volunteers assisting with menu planning (and costing), food preparation, food distribution on the Outreach vehicle, cleanup, and participate as part of the team.
  • Coordinate with outreach/evangelism volunteers for conversation and prayer ministry at the OMH stations.
  • Take inventory to ensure all material assistance items are in stock and re-order when necessary.
  • Purchase as required all necessary supplies to prepare meals on site as needed and serve meals to clients.
  • Direct the loading of the vehicle with prepared food for outreach services.
  • Report any maintenance needs of the EMS Vehicle to the Centre of Hope administration.
  • Collaborate with local churches and food bank agencies for meal donations for the outreach program.
Administration
  • Develop knowledge and understanding of existing services and resources in the community, including those provided by other Salvation Army Ministry Units.
  • Liaise with other Ministry Units where applicable.
  • Work within budget requirements for OMH, collating and submitting all receipts/invoices to corps Administrative Assistant in a timely manner.
  • Maintain file of weekly worksheets collating information of numbers of meals served and food temperatures.
  • Submit a monthly report to the Corps Officers, including an activity log.
Information Resources
  • Create and maintain an outreach resource database that contains a current listing of volunteers, contacts, and statistics.
Perform other related duties as required.Working Conditions:
  • This is a temporary part time position based on 12 hours per week.
  • The supervisor will set hours of work and work schedule.
  • Schedule will vary according to menu plans, availability of volunteers, etc.
  • Flexibility in scheduling is required.
  • Ability to lift/move more than 20 lbs.
  • Travel is required.
Normal hours of work:
  • Generally, food preparation will take place on Tuesday morning/afternoon.
  • The Operation Mobilizing Hope ministry takes place on Tuesday\'s 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm with unloading and cleanup of van and kitchen afterward (and return of the van to Centre of Hope).
  • Balance of hours used in meal planning, grocery shopping, and recruitment and scheduling of volunteers, etc.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
  • Completion of a Community College Diploma in Social Services or equivalent field of study.
  • Current, valid Safe Food Handling and First Aid/CPR Certifications are required.
  • Alternative combinations of education and experience may be considered.
EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE:
  • Minimum of two (2) years of prior related experience, including, experience working with multi-barriered persons.
  • Knowledge of community-based resources.
  • Valid Ontario class \xe2\x80\x9cG\xe2\x80\x9d Driver\'s License, own vehicle and insurance, and a current original copy of driver\'s abstract that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is required.

  • Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army\'s health and safety policies and procedures.
  • Excellent interpersonal skill and customer service skills.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Self-motivated and disciplined.
  • Demonstrate a high level of integrity, good judgment, and ability to maintain appropriate confidentiality.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team with supervision in a multi-faceted environment.
  • Ability and willingness to undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully that are satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion (i.e., The Salvation Army Abuse Registry) and provide an original copy of a Background Check screening.
  • Ability and willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.
