Job Description


DescriptionEmergency Housing Central Intake Line (EHCIL) is a York Region 24/7 telephone service that provides access to emergency housing beds for people at risk of homelessness or experiencing homelessness. The EHCIL staff conduct diversion assessments (where applicable) to prevent homelessness through diversion. They also provide information and warm transfers to a range of homelessness servicesKEY RESPONSIBILITIES:Program

  • Answering calls from the Emergency Housing Central Intake Line
  • Dealing with clients in crisis, assessing the best outcomes when possible
  • Gathering information under the authority of the Housing Act
  • Communicating with clients, emergency housing operators, agency professionals, and other individuals while
  • Assessing the diversion eligibility of a client and making appropriate referrals using the Diversion Assessment Tool (DAT)
  • Reserving beds, when available, in the Emergency Housing system in York Region
Administration
  • Creating or updating profiles in HFIS
  • Administering and uploading consent, reserving beds as per HIFIS protocols
  • Fulfilling and keeping current with the Central Intake Tracker, including all call details, outcomes, bed availability etc.
  • Documenting gathered information, turn aways and outcomes of calls
  • Fulfilling and communicating all relevant Incident reports, including IIR (Internal reports) and CIR (critical reports) to the EHCIL team and supervisory staff
  • Performing all relevant documentation related to PSCW- Intake Worker including but not limited to consent, creation of profiles, client notes, shift logs, and incident reports
  • Staying up to date on all communications, including management/supervisory emails, client case notes, meeting minutes, training communications, policy and procedures updates, etc.
  • Upholding confidentiality and client-centered practices
Perform other related duties as requiredWORKING CONDITIONS:
  • This is a temporary full time position from August 5, 2024, to August 4, 2025
  • Shift work - 84 hours biweekly.
  • Work remotely (95%)
  • Must have secure internet provider, password protected.
  • Travel may be required for on-site training and/or meetings. (5%)
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
  • Completion of Social Services Worker diploma
  • Completion of Social Worker degree is preferred.
  • Trauma-Informed care training, Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training and Mental Health First Aid training any of these certificates is preferred.
EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE:
  • Experience with client-centered practices with a thorough knowledge and understanding of and a commitment to anti-racism, anti-oppression, and equity.
  • Experience working with homelessness, mental health, and addictions.
  • Knowledge and understanding of barriers related to homelessness.
  • Knowledge of York Region community resources an asset.
SKILLS AND CAPABILITIES:
  • Oral and written communication skills, including interpersonal and time management, are essential
  • Must exhibit strong empathy, understanding and support for all, including difficult-to-serve clients
  • Ability to undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully that are satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion (i.e., The Salvation Army Abuse Registry) and provide an original copy of a Background Check with vulnerable sector screening
  • Ability and willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities
