Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated Prep Cook to join our team. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in meal preparation, ensuring that our kitchen operates efficiently and effectively. As a Prep Cook, you will assist in the preparation for our daily menu while adhering to food safety standards.
Duties include but are not limited to:
Clean stove and grill (grease trap) nightly.
Cleans and sanitizes work station/kitchen area.
Prepare resident's snacks
Clear tables from snacks and wash all dishes
Store any supplies that have been delivered during the day, that has not been put away.
Do all prep work and baking for the following days menu, (follow instructions left by the day cook).
Update recipe binder, write out any recipes that are used in baking.
Two (2) desserts must be prepared for the following day, a non diabetic and a diabetic dessert. Please make sure that there is sufficient quantity for all residents and the dessert is of good quality.
When peeling and chopping vegetables - please make sure that there is sufficient quantity and they are cut as required for the meal.
Check the table cloths to ensure they are clean; if not remove and wash.
Help set tables for the next morning.
Assist with cleaning and refilling sugar and butter dishes, milk jugs, jams, ketchup, mustard etc.
Stock up juices and canisters nightly.
Sweep and thoroughly mop the kitchen floors.
Clean all surfaces counter tops, glass, cabinets, under the sink and spice rack.
Recycling bins are to be emptied into the wood box outside when full.
Clean and refill the fruit bowls for the morning
Wipe out utensil drawers and wash off plate, bowl and glass shelves regularly
Prepare breakfast (boiled eggs, hot cereals, bacon, coffee and hot water) for the day cook
Assisting with completion of Inventory last day of the month when necessary
In case of emergency, assist PCA's if they require assistance with a resident at night or maybe required to assist/escort residents to or from main dining room
Adhere to the provincial guidelines for proper safe food handling and practices
Assists in providing direction, guidance and instruction to cooks in training
Foster an environment of engagement, encouragement and safeguard to ensure resident's well-being is maintained. Particularly for those seniors who are vulnerable and require guidance/support
Be sure to always approach residents with a friendly attitude and be courteous

oIs able to kneel, bend, stoop and lift repeatedly
