Overview


We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Community Mental Health Worker to join our Next Steps team for up to one year, with the possibility of extension.

You will be responsible to an assigned Program Coordinator. Community Mental Health Workers assist residents/tenants in learning independent living skills through individual and/or group involvement.

Responsibilities



1. To provide case management functions and counseling support to residents.

2. Assist residents in developing an accurate assessment of their needs and support them in meeting their needs in a realistic manner.

3. Provide crisis, one-to-one and/or group counseling, in accordance with individual treatment plans and programming needs.

4. Encourage residents/tenants to participate in meaningful activities in the community.

5. Encourage residents/tenants to access and utilize professional and other resources to achieve and maintain a healthy lifestyle.

6. Teach and demonstrate effective living skills; such as, regular household tasks, budgeting, self-care and relating to others.

7. Respond to respite and service requests from other North Star Supportive Housing facilities.

8. Maintain the day-to-day activities in accordance with the policies and procedures of the North Star Supportive Housing facility.

9. Maintain clear and concise verbal communications and written records

10. Participate and contribute to program development through staff meetings and in-service education, where possible

11. Liaise with the community in a professional manner

12. Maintain regular communication with Program Coordinator and seek advice and guidance when necessary

13. Other duties as assigned

COMMUNITY MENTAL HEALTH WORKER



MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS



- Minimum of two year post-secondary education in social/health sciences from an

accredited educational institution with preference being for a university degree majoring in psychology or social work discipline

- Minimum of three years or 6000 hours of related work experience

- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of mental illness

- Demonstrated interpersonal communication skills

- Demonstrated ability in verbal and written communication

- Demonstrated effective decision-making and crisis intervention skills

- Demonstrated ability of being self-directed to work independently and as a team member

- Demonstrated ability in facilitating and teaching life skills

- Demonstrated knowledge of case management and counseling principles

- Demonstrated ability to follow policy and procedures of an organization

Job Types: Full-time, Fixed term contract
Contract length: 12 months

Pay: From $26.66 per hour

Expected hours: 32 - 40 per week
