Your Opportunity:
Position Summary: The Temperature Control Mechanic/HVAC position reports to the Manager of Engineering Services, Facilities Maintenance and Engineering (FME) at the University of Alberta Hospitals (UAH). The incumbent will assist in maintaining eight facilities totaling over 650,000 m of clinical and mechanical space, including Acute Care, Laboratory, Research, Commercial, Institutional, and Industrial equipment. Key Responsibilities: Monitor, maintain, test, repair, commission systems and document results according to the Canadian Electrical Code, Fire Code, Department Policy, Life Safety, and Building Code regulations, in compliance with Provincial, Site, and FME standards. Work within a multidisciplinary team of Tradespeople, Maintenance Workers, and collaborate with Clinical Staff, Contractors, and other Stakeholders. Maintain systems, including but not limited to: Work with BMS controls, Pneumatic controls, VAV boxes, Phoenix valves, AccuValves, Control valves, Fire Dampers, Bubble Type Dampers, Air filtration, filter changes, Humidification and hydronic systems, Analyzing load comparison and airflow monitoring devices, Evaluate air handling systems, operating rooms, isolation rooms, laboratories, secondary fan systems, and airflow monitoring devices, Recommend design improvements, replacements, and modifications to major repairs for HVAC systems, Implement maintenance schedules and document material usage. Project Involvement: Support Major & Minor Capital Projects, FME projects at UAH, including attending start-up meetings, Reviewing and commissioning specifications & drawings, Coordinating with Consultants, Engineers, Project Managers, Coordinators, and Clinical Liaisons Expectation: Ensure the integrity of all systems to operate effectively and provide a safe and comfortable environment for hospital occupants, in compliance with FME and Site standards.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of a post-secondary education in a related trade or technology program.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Must hold credentials in HVACR Technician Certificate or Building Environmental Systems Technology Diploma, or completion of a two-year diploma in a related technology or field from a Canadian accredited institution (International credentials must be IQAS approved). Minimum 5 years' work experience as a ticketed HVAC technician with HVACR Technician Certificate or Building Environmental Systems Technology Diploma. Minimum 2 years' experience in an active hospital maintenance program (International credentials must be IQAS approved). Required Knowledge, Skills & Experience with: ASHRAE Standard 170 - Ventilation of Health Care Facilities, CSA-Z317.2, Health Care Facility Infection Prevention Control, Electrical Code, Alberta Building Code & Safety Regulations; Familiarity with tools and equipment used in the trade; Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs (Outlook, Word, Excel); Ability to work within a team setting and independently in an interdisciplinary setting, maintain confidentiality, and prioritize tasks efficiently;; Analyzing performance of air handling systems; Proven reliability with no physical limitations regarding sitting, kneeling, crawling, squatting, standing, walking, working at heights, and carrying heavy loads; Demonstrated self-direction, adaptability, and flexibility with dealing with uncontrollable situations; Must meet all organizational policy requirements; Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

Knowledge in implementing preventive maintenance schedules, prepare feasibility, cost estimates, reports, and ordering supplies; Preference will be given to previous maintenance experience; Must be reliable, cooperative and capable of working independently; Has the ability to work under emergency conditions and in difficult situations; Experience with HVAC systems in complex environments; Strong analytical skills for system performance and load comparison.
