Position Description




A temporary part time (0.27) Gym Prep Teacher is required by School District No. 60 (Peace River North) effective September 1, 2025 to June 30, 2026. The assignment will be at Alwin Holland Elementary School.


Alwin Holland has a student population of over 200 students and approximately 30% of those are Indigenous. Our school is an inner city school and our school population is characterized by considerable diversity. See for more information.


Qualifications and Experience




Valid BC Ministry of Education Teaching Certificate (or eligible for) Qualifications and demonstrated ability to teach the identified subjects at the elementary years level Experience with universal design and differentiation to meet the diverse needs of students Excellent interpersonal, communications, collaboration and organization skills Experience/training/knowledge of Social Emotional Learning. Demonstrated ability to create a positive classroom community contributing to a safe, caring, and healthy school where every student feels a sense of belonging Strong belief in the philosophy of inclusion and the potential of all students to learn Understanding of the BC Curriculum and ability to plan both short-term and long-term in consideration of class composition Willingness to work in a collaborative model with staff on the foundation of enhancing student learning Demonstrated use of classroom management practices that are pro-active and maintain student dignity Demonstrated use of assessment practices that promote student learning and maintain student dignity Training for and experience teaching primary/intermediate age students Experience and understanding of the new curriculum and core competencies Experience teaching in a multi-age group setting Experience with Universal Design for Learning and Assessment for learning Experience in effective team teaching in collaborative teaching environments Ability to use literacy programs to build skills in phonemic awareness, phonics instruction, vocabulary, fluency, comprehension and writing Experience with integrating subject areas, inquiry based learning, and experiential learning Experience with and commitment to using individualized and group instruction with a variety of effective strategies, techniques, and resources Strong belief in the philosophy of inclusion and the potential of all children to learn Experience working with children with special needs Training and experience teaching ELL, ADHD, ASD, and FASD students Ability to work as part of a team to develop and implement individual plans (IEPs, LSPs, BIPs, AIPs) for students with academic, social and emotional learning difficulties Ability to use performance standards in all areas Awareness of the outcomes and evaluation processes outlined in the new curriculum Working knowledge of Criterion Based Referencing Assessment and Performance Based Assessment Experience with teaching self-regulation strategies in the classroom Experience/training/knowledge of Positive Behaviour Supports (PBS) Excellent technology skills Ability and willingness to incorporate a variety of technology into regular classroom instruction Willingness to commit to ongoing professional development

Compensation




$2000 relocation allowance for teachers from BC, AB and Yukon and up to $4000 for teachers from other areas $3,035 recruitment allowance (paid over 10 months of the school year, based on the FTE) Salary as per collective agreement. Current salary grid is $$65,397 - $111,952 Benefits as per collective agreement with option to enroll in medical, dental, extended health, and group life insurance. Benefits are employer paid based on FTE
