Key Responsibilities:
Craft compelling scripts that reflect the tone, narrative arc, and purpose of each episode or segment, with a focus on real-life medical stories
Structure full episodes, from raw interviews to B-roll, into cohesive, emotionally resonant and informative stories
Plan and manage shoots, pre-production scheduling, shoot planning, crew coordination, and location logistics
Conduct and direct on-camera interviews with patients, doctors, and subject matter experts, guiding them for emotional authenticity and clarity
Assist with post-production, providing clear editorial direction and feedback on structure, pacing, music, and visual storytelling
Review and handle graphic medical or surgical footage with professionalism, ensuring accurate and ethical representation of procedures and outcomes
Ensure all content meets legal, ethical, and editorial standards, especially when dealing with sensitive patient health information
Work collaboratively to deliver polished final episodes on time and within budget
Travel for shoots, managing on-location production logistics and maintaining oversight in the field; locally in Toronto with occasional international travel up to 1-week
Requirements:
3+ years of experience in television production, with a focus on documentary-style or health-related content
Strong skills in scripting and show structure/story development
Must be comfortable with medical subject matter, including graphic surgical footage
Legally able and willing to travel internationally, including to countries that may require visas or short-notice travel; valid passport required
Organized, collaborative, and capable of managing multiple production elements from pre- to post-production
Video editing skills an asset
Work Environment:
Hybrid role: Work remotely with occasional in-person meetings and filming in and around Toronto, and occasional international travel out of Toronto Pearson Airport
Full-time, 30-40 hours per week
