Communications Security Establishment (CSE) is Canada\'s national cryptologic agency. Unique within Canada\'s security and intelligence community, we employ code-makers, codebreakers, and secure system creators to provide the Government of Canada with foreign signals intelligence (SIGINT), as well as cyber security services (Canadian Centre for Cyber Security). CSE is the national hub for cyber operations to protect Canada and advance national interests. We provide technical and operational assistance to federal law enforcement and security agencies. Our Telecommunications operational support team deals with advanced and complex challenges affecting diverse geographical locations. As a telecommunications and network operator or architect, you will be required to design, implement, support, and manage all CSE networks and telecommunications services including Local Area Networks (LAN), Wide Area Networks (WAN), Cloud and Wireless networks. Your work will involve the design, implementation and integration of new solutions and capabilities into those networks.

Salary Range

Communication Security Establishment (CSE) is an agency that is separate from the Core Public Service of Canada. We are not subject to the Public Service Employment Act (PSEA). We have our own classification, staffing regime and compensation system. Therefore, our salary scales are different. Intermediate level UNMA-07: $91,585 - $106,240 per year Senior level UNMA-08: $99,861 - $115,504 per year

Required qualifications

Education

You must have one of the following:
  • A University degree* or college diploma* in a field related to the position, such as (but not limited to) Computer Science, Computer/Electrical Engineering, Network Computing, or Network Telecommunications.
-OR-
  • An acceptable combination of education in a field related to the position (as above) plus a minimum of five (5) years\xe2\x80\x99 experience for each of the experience criteria listed below.
  • The educational program must be recognized in Canada and you must be able to provide proof of education credentials. Students graduating within the next twelve (12) months are eligible to .

Experience

  • Experience in designing, building, testing, implementing, maintenance, and support of telecommunications and/or networking systems.
  • Experience in evaluating products, applications, or technologies relating to the provisioning or managing of telecommunications and/or networking systems.
  • Experience in troubleshooting, debugging and integration testing of Wide Area Networks (WAN), Local Area Networks (LAN) and/or Satellite Communications (SATCOM) and/or Cloud environments
  • Experience in software installation and system administration (including operating system installation techniques) for Windows or UNIX.
  • Experience in the analysis of network traffic and protocols.
  • Experience in administration of remote network endpoints where there is little to no assistance at the remote end.

Security Requirements

You must have no criminal record. The screening process involves a

  • polygraph test
  • psychological assessment
  • background investigation covering a minimum of your last 10 years history, including credit and financial verifications.

What to Expect


  • The process will be conducted in the official language of your choice.
  • A test will be administered to candidates who successfully pass the application review. It will be used as a screening tool. Make sure to check your spam/junk mailbox regularly for notification of the test.
  • Interview(s) will follow for candidates who are successful on the test.
  • References (2 supervisors) will be requested from candidates who successfully complete the interview stage.
  • Candidates will be required to complete the security assessment. More information regarding the hiring and security processes can be found on CSE\'s website.
The entire selection process \xe2\x80\x93 tests, interviews, security investigation \xe2\x80\x93 may take more than one year to complete. If you are deemed to be unsuccessful in the assessment process for this particular selection process, you may re in twelve (12) months.

Additional Details

The level of competence demonstrated in the various assessments will be used to determine your qualifications for the UNMA-07 or UNMA-08 level.

Appointments

Determinate and indeterminate appointments will be used to staff positions of permanent or temporary tenures within CSE. All appointments have a one (1) year probation period.

Operational Requirements

Overtime and standby duty may be required. Some travel may be required.
