POSITION OVERVIEW
The Technology Systems Engineering Manager - SI is a member of a highly skilled application design team dedicated to designing and delivering exceptional software products and services for communication service providers across the world. Responsible for developing the solution architecture that defines how solution components will be assembled and will interact to deliver business functionality. This role utilizes industry best practices and frameworks to engineer software products with design and development cycles ranging from several weeks to years. In addition, this role will also provide software engineering consulting services to international customers.

LEADERSHIP ACCOUNTABILITIES
People
1. Leads, directs and manages staff to ensure the effective use of HR resources. Maximizes performance by selecting (hire external or promote from within), developing, mentoring and sustaining a high level of expertise among staff. Organize and direct work including prioritizing assignments, establishing objectives, providing regular performance feedback, conducting year end performance appraisals and taking necessary corrective action as may be required. Assists in staff career planning, establishes development and succession plans and ensures relevant HR procedures and policies are followed (provisions of the collective agreement, performance appraisals, discipline, grievance, etc). Accountable for provisioning and managing contracted resources as may be required.
2. Accountable for promoting a productive and positive environment for staff that encourages innovation, teamwork, initiative and models corporate values. Motivates staff by assigning challenging work, planning and managing internal communications and awareness of corporate direction, mission, plans and activities.
3. Ensures all safety, health, environmental and code of conduct policies, programs and standards are understood and complied with at all times.
4. Proactively identify and action opportunities to increase customer satisfaction (internal and external customers).
Financial
1. Ensure sound financial control within area of responsibility by developing annual operating and capital budgets, monitoring performance to budget and taking action as appropriate. Develops, negotiates and implements contracts for acquisition of goods & services related to area of responsibility.
Innovation
1. Accountable to research, develop, define and implement innovative long and short term plans, policies and objectives. Provides expertise to senior management providing education, studies and consulting on opportunities that will impact business strategy. Ensures alignment and integration with the corporate strategic plan and develops plan and operational metrics, including approaches for demonstrating business value.
2. Accountable to proactively identify and action opportunities to improve revenue and growth initiatives, decrease costs, increase customer service levels and increase employee engagement.
3. Accountable to develop opportunities to spark innovation in technology or product service delivery or process improvements.

SPECIFIC ACCOUNTABILITIES
1. Responsible for providing technical leadership and tactical planning of application design, development and integration
2. Designs and builds enterprise software products utilizing the full software development lifecycle (SDLC) from the ground up for large international communication service providers.
3. Evaluates the impacts of changing business drivers on the application architecture, and advises SI on areas on focus, areas for new application, data, and technology requirements.
4. Provides leadership in development of reusable software-based services and other initiatives to develop SI solutions. Facilitates smooth handoff to implementation areas as appropriate.
5. Develops plans for short and long term client engagements while managing budgets and ensuring profitability. Manages project budgets, resource allocation and project deliverables.
6. Works off-site and on-site in a true consulting capacity providing consultation and advisory services to clients as a Subject Matter Expert on SI software products and software engineering ranging from small one-week engagements to multi-year complex projects.
7. Works in a management capacity on customer sites leading client staff while having a high level of autonomy and decision making responsibilities while working on-site for client engagements based on contracted services.
8. Responsible for vendor relationships and performance.
9. Manages and directs daily activities and performance of project teams.
10. Translates highly complex business requirements and logic into application architecture designs and plans.

QUALIFICATIONS
1. Engineer or Computer Science degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience in a related field.
2. Extensive experience in Software Engineering including application, data and infrastructure architecture and the application of information technology principles, methodologies and techniques.
3. Extensive experience in the application of information technology principles, methodologies and techniques.
4. Demonstrated analytical, business and technical expertise in delivering IT products and services.
5. Experience in coaching/mentoring software engineering teams while managing and leading multiple projects in all stages of the development life cycle
6. Ability to work in an advisory and consultative capacity and take on leadership responsibilities during client engagements.
7. Ability to work flexible hours in a 24x7x365 environment including evenings and weekends and willing to travel internationally as required.
8. Ability to plan and monitor the implementation of high profile projects.
9. Previous experience working within a software development or professional services organization is highly desirable.
