The AECOM Buildings + Places team is seeking a talented and experienced Security Design Specialist to join our team. This position could be based anywhere in Canada.

Job Summary:

In this role, the individual will be focused on architecture and building engineering projects for public safety buildings including defence, first responders, courthouses, corrections, border crossings, and other high security facilities. Projects may include new buildings, renovations to existing buildings, and building recapitalizations across Canada, or internationally.

Responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Act in a lead subject matter expert role as Security Design Specialist as part of architecture and building engineering design teams
  • Advise on or develop security design content for feasibility studies, schematic design, design development, construction documents, and construction contract administration.
  • Help clients to develop and realize the overall security profile and vision for their infrastructure projects.
  • Understand and apply relevant security codes, standards, guidelines, or other requirements to the design.
  • Work closely with architects, interior designers, structural, mechanical, electrical, civil engineers, and landscape architects to integrate all aspects into the project design.
  • Sign off and professionally seal any security design reports, drawings, or specifications.
  • Establish and maintain a sense of collaboration within the project team, including with clients and external consultants or third-party stakeholders.
  • Assist the Public Safety Market Sector Leader with business development activities such as creating connections with clients, providing input into proposals, representing the firm at industry functions or conferences, and maintaining a working knowledge of projects within the firm.
Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

In order to be considered for this position, candidates must have at least:
  • At a minimum, a Bachelor\'s degree in architecture or engineering + 6 (six) years of experience in the design of secure facilities. Additional education and experience is preferred.
  • Licensed Architect or Engineer in a Canadian Province or Territory
  • Certified Physical Security Professional (PSP) or Certified Protection Professional (CPP) from ASIS International
  • Eligible to obtain security clearance with the Canadian Federal Government\'s Contract Security Program
Preferred Qualifications:

The following are not mandatory but considered an asset:
  • Experience with understanding and applying Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) concepts to design
  • Experience with force protection, perimeter security, hostile vehicle mitigation, fencing, or other site security measures
  • Experience with electronic security systems such as Intrusion Alarms (IA) using Internet Protocol (IP), Access Control Systems (ACS), Central Monitoring and Control Stations (CMCS), Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) surveillance, etc.
  • Preparing or interpreting Threat and Vulnerability Assessments (TVA) or Threat Risk Assessment (TRA)
  • Designing Sensitive Compartmented Information Facilities (SCIF)
