We are looking for a passionate, hard-working and talented Software Development Manager who has experience managing engineers, building world-class solutions. The person chosen for this position will have the opportunity to contribute their creative ideas and energy to our global organization. The successful candidate is a team member with a strong software development background.
These are some of the key ingredients to the role:
Managing the Engineering roadmap for the components that the team manages, making sure we drive the platform forward architecturally.
Fostering a strong team & professional development of cross-functional members, leading teams of Engineers of all levels, and working closely with senior stakeholders across product and delivery.
Instilling a proactive attitude to getting the job done.
Providing day-to-day technical leadership for your team.
Having regular 1-2-1 conversations with team members to review and track career development progress. Celebrate success in achieving these goals and progress towards them.
Guiding product development in line with agreed processes e.g Continuous Delivery, Stability/Scalability/Security.
Assisting product & delivery to shape deliverables around any technical constraints.
Partnering with product and delivery to prioritize work and measure success.
Managing stakeholder expectations and liaising with other product development departments and influencing other backlogs where appropriate.
Technical coordination and forward planning with other teams to ensure risks and blockers are identified ahead of time.
Responsible for the management of multiple critical platform components.
Leading a function that directly and significantly impacts our external reputation.
Managing release risk - being the decision point for their teams.
Make sure out-of-hours support is appropriate.

Skills:
Understands working with and developing a team of Engineers, Product Managers, UX Designers, and Support Technicians.
Understands SKIP--both in terms of the team's objectives and those of the company as a whole.
Manages the software development process from idea to release.
Manages technical projects and deployments.
Works independently and solves complex problems.
Uses best practices to improve products, services, and processes.
Manages shifting priorities; is flexible and proactive in a sometimes unpredictable environment.
Communicates effectively in person and in writing.
Knowledge:
In-depth understanding of software engineering. Has subject matter expertise and experience.
Understanding of AWS services or other large cloud services providers.
Understanding of developing and operating marketplace-like products.
Good understanding of terraform and best practices.
Good understanding of how to drive a high-performance culture within their team.
Broad understanding of Skip's day-to-day business, strategies, and priorities across the company as a whole.
Basic understanding of all disciplines within their team (EX: software engineering, product management, design, research).
Experience:
Proven track record of delivering high-quality work and driving best practices across teams and departments.
Experience in looking broadly across the discipline of software development, both within SKIP and the wider marketplace.
Successful stakeholder management experience.
Business or accounting experience is useful.
Proven leadership skills in coaching, mentoring, performance management, and related fields.
