Position Description

In support of the SickKids 2025 Strategy and the vision of Unprecedented Outcomes Powered by Precision Child Health (PCH), the Translational Genomics (TG) team is hiring a full-time technologist to join our dynamic research team. `The successful applicant will be part of a multi-disciplinary team that applies novel technologies and an array of bespoke investigations for rare genetic disease research. Bespoke investigations may include but are not limited to performing quantitative PCR, western blots, immunohistochemistry and preparation of samples for RNA-sequencing/proteomics.
Applicants must have wet-lab experience, and any experience with cell culture is preferable. Ultimately, we are looking for someone who is self-motivated, a team player, and excited about doing cutting edge science that will support the delivery of precision medicine. Experience in analyzing and interpreting genome data is also an asset, as well as someone who can balance multiple projects and work collaboratively to support the various initiatives of the TG team of the Precision Child Health initiative. This is a unique opportunity to use your scientific skills combined with leading edge technologies to advance research, improve patient care, and contribute to the advancement of genomic medicine.'
Here's What You'll Get To Do
Establish, maintain and work with different cell lines including lymphoblastoid cells, fibroblasts and human induced pluripotent stem cells.
Assist in the design and implementation of bespoke functional assays to interrogate the impact of patient genomic variants.
Learn and perform gene editing using CRISPR/Cas9.
Set up and maintain lab equipment.
Assist in developing, devising or improving existing methods, practices and procedures.
Order and maintain inventories of supplies and equipment.
Communicate and maintain records of experimental data.
Assume responsibility for accuracy of techniques using established policies and procedures to resolve technical problems.
Demonstrate willingness to learn and accept responsibility.
Assist and/or train other lab personnel.
Here's What You'll Need
Essentials
Minimum Bachelor of Science degree or equivalent experience.
Previous experience in a clinical or research laboratory setting is required.
Ability to critically analyze and interpret medical/scientific literature.
Demonstrated capacity to be self-motivated and a team player with a high degree of independence.
Excellent organization and time management skills, good attention to details, and ability to adjust priorities according to workload.
Effective oral and written communication skills.
Assets
Experience with interpretation of genetic variants and variant interpretation.
Experience with creating and characterizing zebrafish models of disease.
