Support Staff Full-time Replacement Position
(First consideration for Support Staff and Academic positions will be given to internal applicants in accordance with the respective Collective Agreements)
The Technologist of Food Processing is responsible for the operation of the food processing pilot plant and laboratories. This includes providing technical advice around the demonstration of practical skills and remedial instruction for those students requiring further assistance.
Successful candidates will be required to conduct work within Ontario and must be available to work on campus as required. This position will work on-site five days per week at the Cambridge campus.
Responsibilities:
Using a customer centric and collaborative approach the incumbent liaises between students and their employers to ensure student success. Activities are monitored and outcomes managed
Interviews, assesses, and guides the student to explore employment and training goals and direct them to the most appropriate services to achieve successful outcomes
Supports the student to identify suitable activities, incentives and supports to achieve desired outcomes
Identifies student?s need for support pre/during/post placement experience; develops support plan and linkages with an employer outlining steps and objectives; monitors client/employer relationship, adjusts the plan accordingly to ensure success
Reviews and discusses employability evaluations from the employer to evaluate the outcome of the experience and advise of other options as necessary
Maintains supportive and strategic relationships with employers to identify and meet human resource needs, labour market opportunities/trends, and to support training/work experience for students
Supports and coordinates placement and lab learning experiences in collaboration with the employer partner
Communicates, documents, and supports work placement contracts, training objectives, commitments, and financial incentives for each student/employer connection
Provides referrals to training on sensitivity/diversity, workplace safety, and accommodation needs, as required while monitoring, problem-solving, and supporting student/employer relationship
Qualifications:
Three-year Diploma or Degree in Food Processing, Food Technology, Food Science, Electro-mechanical Maintenance, Mechanical Engineering, Licensed Electrician or Licensed Industrial Mechanical Millwright (433A) required
Three years of demonstrated, hands-on experience on a wide range of food processing equipment and operations at the plant floor level (including mechanical and instrumentation skills) as well as on Good Manufacturing Practices and HACCP
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
High level organizational skills for planning/scheduling activities in the pilot plant and lab
Ability to work independently, be self-motivated, and assertive
Strong problem-solving skills
Ability to explain ideas and concepts thoroughly to students
