Job Description

The Traffic Signals Design/Clearances Technologist, under the direct supervision of the Senior Design Technologist, gathers all relevant information to complete the drafting for as-built drawings of traffic control devices (traffic signals, pedestrian corridors, etc.), review clearance requests and when applicable coordinates the scheduling of field locates. The work also involves the preparation of design drawings and estimates for individual projects, performing site visits to confirm existing infrastructure, updating records and doing technical and clerical work to record plant inventory.

Traffic Signals Design/Clearances Technologist

you will:



Review Clearance Requests using as-built record information to ensure consistency between proposed work and existing infrastructure. Create and update drawings for construction and as-built for record. Perform Site Inspection/Survey to determine locations of above and below ground traffic signals. Update department records to ensure an updated database.
Calculate estimates for various projects to determine costs.

Your education and qualifications include:




Civil Engineering Technology Diploma from a recognized Institute of technology and eligible for membership with CTTAM as a Certified Engineering Technologist (C.E.T.) Minimum two (2) years relevant technical experience in drafting and interpreting construction drawings. Traffic Signals design/drafting experience considered and asset.

Experience and proficiency in the use of the latest version of AutoCAD software.

Experience in the use of Geomedia Pro GIS software.

Ability to read and interpret prints, technical drawings, legal descriptions and specifications.

Strong communication skills with the ability to understand, execute and communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.

Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with employees at all levels of the organization, external contacts and the public. Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills

Ability to work independently and in a team environment.

Strong organization and time management skills with the ability to prioritize and meet deadlines.

Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precaution policies and regulations with the ability to adhere to and enforce safety rules and policies.

Must possess and maintain a valid Class 5 Manitoba Driver's License. Successful applicant will be required to provide a vehicle for transportation while on City business, subject to the City Transportation Policy. * Must be physically able to perform the duties of the job, including; sitting, standing, walking, climbing stairs, kneeling, stooping, use of both hands, manual dexterity, visual acuity/color vision, lifting weights up to 15 lbs.
