  • Calibrates, configures, repairs, installs and utilizes various instruments and measurement devices to ensure compliance with provincial and federal requirements. This includes gas testing equipment, and involves proximity to toxic gases.
  • Participates on committees involved with performing a full range of complex technical and statistical functions. Duties include:
  • establishing user requirements
  • performing evaluation and acceptance tests
  • gathering and analysis of data
  • evaluating the risk of various alternatives
  • analyzing data, and researching discrepancies
  • providing recommendations and implementing solutions
  • Assists with system upgrades, new installations, and operation and maintenance programs related to Communications, Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA), Telemetry, Stations, Gas Odorization, and Measurement Installations. These duties include:
  • developing, implementing and conducting, maintenance, and calibration programs
  • configures and develops software for the equipment listed above
  • troubleshoots system failures and determines the need for and arranges for or conducts repairs
  • develops work procedures
  • identifies user requirements/problems and recommends possible solutions
  • Responsible for developing, maintaining and operating Quality Assurance program(s)
  • Prepares and presents training sessions to technicians, technologists, trades people, contractors, trainers and administrators
  • Interprets and notes changes on drawings to record modifications and improvements to the systems
  • Establishes and maintains liaisons with vendors, gas utilities, government agencies, professional associations, standards organizations, internal and external customers, including:
  • discussing business practices, mutual needs, concerns and activities
  • coordinating, negotiating, implementing and monitoring work and
  • maintaining liaison with other specialists as required
  • Witnesses and conducts inspections at large gas sales stations and vendor facilities in order to ensure the accuracy and quality of measurement systems and equipment.
  • Maintains a current knowledge of new developments in technology, safety, quality, and regulations by attending conferences, seminars, and reviewing technical papers
  • As required, manually controls stations, or other parts of the gas system for maintenance of instrumentation or emergency purposes.
  • Provides support for the Gas lab by providing odorant survey sampling
  • Performs duties of a minor nature related to the above duties including driving a vehicle which do not affect the rating of the job
Requirements
  • Completion of recognized post secondary technologist diploma program in an appropriate electronics engineering technology
  • Six (6) months directly related relevant experience
  • Sound computer literacy, including familiarity with application software used in the department
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Strong analytical abilities and organizational skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Strong oral and written communication and presentation skills
  • Liaison experience with utility companies, government agencies, suppliers, contractors and industry associations
  • Ability to work outdoors in all conditions
  • Valid British Columbia Driver\'s License
