Reporting to the Environmental coordinator, the Water Treatment Technician will be responsible for the planning and strategies of the water treatment system, as well as ensuring its operation and sampling. The Water Treatment Technician will work closely with the Water Treatment Operators, the Environmental Supervisor, the Environmental Labourer, Surface Plant personnel and other members of the Company. Based at the Windfall site, located in the Nord-du-Quebec region, he/she will be required to work a schedule of 15 days on, 13 days off. Transportation, accommodation and meals provided.

Duties and responsibilities



Participate in water treatment planning based on factors influencing treatment: seasons, water volume (rainfall and melt), etc; Participate in the planning of equipment maintenance and repair (pumps, pipes, valves, etc.); Investigate and diagnose pumping and treatment problems; Ensure proper operation of all water treatment equipment, including start-up and shut-down; Participate in the development and improvement of work procedures and processes; Perform various analyses (pH, ammonia nitrogen, etc.) using fixed and portable analyzers (HACH DR3900, pH meter, etc.); Perform tests to determine correct coagulant and flocculant dosages; Collect and enter process data into databases (flow rates, pH, turbidity, etc.); Ensure the replenishment of the various reagents required for water treatment; Maintain and winterize equipment; Sample effluent (Directive 019/REMMMD) and send samples to laboratories; Always advocate (in decisions, actions, etc.) environmental protection and take into account aspects of sustainable development (economic, social, ecological); Participate in the preparation of Job Safety Analysis (JSA) sheets; Effective communication to supervisors of anomalies and situations to be monitored; Comply with current environmental policies and procedures; Perform all other tasks related to the Water Treatment Technician position in order to ensure the success of the project.

Qualifications required



Diploma in water treatment; Valid class 5 driving license; Good knowledge of English and very good knowledge of French (spoken and written). French is the first language at work; Successful completion of mining modules 1-2-3-4-5 and 7, (an asset).

Technical skills



(2) years' experience in water treatment (industrial water an asset); Intermediate level of Microsoft Excel spreadsheet skills; Intermediate knowledge of chemistry and science; Knowledge of pumping equipment and basic plumbing; WHMIS knowledge to work safely with chemicals; Knowledge of instrumentation and control; Knowledge of DCS systems; Calculation and reasoning skills; Laboratory skills; Experience with countertop (HACH DR3900) and portable (pH meter) water analyzers; Experience with multi-parameter probes (pH, O2, ORP, turbidity, etc); Rigor and accuracy in data entry and task execution; Ability to understand flow plans (PFD) and piping diagrams (P&ID); Basic knowledge of fluid mechanics (flow rates, velocities, pressure drops, etc); Basic ability to investigate and diagnose treatment problems.
