Salary Information: The salary range, based on 1.0 FTE, is $28.72 - 37.60 per hour (Applied Scientific Services/Phase 5). The starting salary will be commensurate with education and experience.

Number of Openings: 1Primary Purpose: To assist with the implementation of programs and initiatives in the BJ Hughes Centre for Clinical Learning (HCCL), and provide support for the day-to-day operations and learning activities within the Centre.Nature of Work: Reporting to the HCCL Manager, the Simulation Technician is responsible for providing assistance in all technical aspects of the HCCL. Simulation animal and specimen handling and manipulation are a constant part of the position. The Technician may be exposed to dander and waste. This position requires lifting, moving and cleaning of equipment and work area. The HCCL is a fast paced environment with frequent interruptions. Employees may be subjected to some unpleasant odors, dress code, traffic pattern restrictions and risks associated with working in a laboratory environment.Accountabilities

  • Providing support for the 1st to 3rd year academic labs and working collaboratively with the HCCL Manager and other technicians to deliver HCCL programs
  • Providing support for the Veterinary Medical Centre Registered Veterinary Technologist skill development programs
  • Assisting with the creation and teaching of effective lab materials and exercises
  • Simulation model development and construction
  • Assisting with materials, models and medical techniques based on best practices to ensure students are able to grasp concepts and utilize information correctly
  • Meeting lab needs in collaboration with the HCCL Manager and guided by the DVM program curriculum
  • Ensuring laboratories are prepared and equipment is fully functional and maintained
Qualifications
Education: Completion of a Veterinary or Animal Health Technology Diploma. Completion of the ASSET Foundations course or Simulation Education Training (SET) would be considered an asset. Registration with the Saskatchewan Association of Veterinary Technologists (SAVT) is required.Experience: Experience as a Registered Veterinary Technologist with multiple specifies in a wide range of clinical settings and experience in teaching veterinary students. Experience in the development and delivery of Objective Structured Clinical Examinations, and knowledge of techniques for the fabrication of simulation task trainers would be considered an asset. Experience in the use of IT for video capture, in particular KB Port, is preferred. Experience in the care, maintenance and use of Syndaver simulations dogs would be considered a strong assetSkills: Effective interpersonal and communication skills, demonstrated good judgement and integrity. Ability to prioritize work, strong organizational skills, and the ability to work in both an independent and team environment are a requirement for this position.While applicants who meet the qualifications of a CUPE 1975 Phase 5 listed above will be given priority, we may also consider applicants who are not fully qualified but show an interest in learning and developing their skills. Successful applicants who do not meet our qualifications but have other post secondary qualifications and experience may be offered the position at a lower classification (CUPE 1975 Phase 4 or CUPE 1975 Phase 3) and therefore a lower pay rate. We will provide training, support, and an opportunity to move to the fully qualified level.
