Position Summary

The Technician, School of Media offers comprehensive technical, logistical, and administrative assistance to the academic programs within the School of Media. This support encompasses the management of dedicated media labs, including classrooms, studios, editing suites, and symphony suites. Responsibilities involve equipment and software preparation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair as needed.

Additionally, the Media Technician supports the media student Teaching Assistants (TAs) before each semester. On a daily basis, the technician collaborates with the RTVR program coordinator to program live audio content and provide backing for student audio project production. Furthermore, the technician actively participates in covering all special events hosted by the School of Media.

Responsibilities

School Support

  • Support all the dedicated School of Media labs (classrooms, studios, editing suites, symphony suites etc.) by preparing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing equipment and software, as required.
  • Assist and provide instructions to new and existing faculty and TAs, when appropriate, on how the equipment/software in the media labs operate.
  • Analyzes repairs and disorders. Where appropriate performs routine maintenance and repairs and where appropriate requisitions outside third-party services.
  • Creates, modifies, and performs a preventive maintenance schedule on the specialized equipment. Also, recommends the purchasing of new and replacement equipment, when necessary.
  • Supports ITS and academic programs on the purchase of new annual capital equipment. Ensure that the newly installed systems are fully functioning, and faculty have basic training in the updated protocol.
Operations Support
  • Support student staff on a semesterly basis. (approx. 12 to 15 TAs per term)
  • Assist the RTVR program coordinator daily to program live audio content and support the production of student audio work. The coordinator provides the content to the technician to be converted and scheduled for broadcast and streaming by using iNews and g-selector software.
  • Special event coverage in the School of Media including sporting events (audio, video & streaming); technical lead for monthly episodes of In Conversation; produce audio and visual content for recruitment events including Open House; support the production of Dean\xe2\x80\x99s Desk Podcast, support EMP student productions including Convergence, Coalesce, The Fashion Show and more.
Qualifications

Education
  • Minimum completed three (3) year diploma/degree in Media and Content Production or in a related field.
Experience
  • Minimum of three (3) years\xe2\x80\x99 experience working Media and content production.
  • Working knowledge of BURLI, iNEWS software, Maestro, camera equipment, AVID technology and various AUDIO systems is required.
  • Knowledge of radio studio production equipment including the podcast studio, RCS and webcams and journalism recording space is required.
Skills
  • Self-starter with strong project, time management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently, organize workflow, prioritize and meet deadlines.
  • Must have initiative and good problem-solving skills and be able to work independently.
  • Knowledge of computer software such as Windows, MS Office, email, desktop publishing software and internet software.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication and conflict resolution skills are required along with the ability to interact effectively with a multi-cultural/racial/able student and staff population.
