About Us

McArthur River, located in northern Saskatchewan, is the world\'s largest high-grade uranium mine. The uranium produced at McArthur River is used for nuclear fuel products, which utilities around the world rely on to generate safe, reliable, emissions-free nuclear power. Cameco is one of the largest global providers of the uranium fuel needed to energize a clean-air world.

This is a 9-month temporary position.

The Role

Cameco is looking for a motivated and ambitious individual to join our mine engineering team at McArthur River Operation in northern Saskatchewan. Reporting to the Senior Engineer, Mine, you will be responsible for the planning and monitoring of underground mine and process ventilation systems.

In this role, you will:

  • Conduct ventilation surveys every month and troubleshoot any deficiencies that are identified
  • Issue ventilation survey maps of the mine for use in planning, operations, and emergency situations
  • Perform weekly gas checks
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory ventilation requirements
  • Monitor and report performance of primary ventilation and heating system
  • Create and issue timely ventilation design instructions to address deficiencies and improve performance
  • Provide input regarding ventilation construction work to short term planners
  • Issue blast clearing instructions as needed
  • Work on projects related to ventilation (Ventilation on Demand)
  • Provide coverage performing underground development and surface surveys, concrete, shotcrete and other inspections to ensure underground construction is completed as per specifications, collect geotechnical data as required
  • Assist with preparation, review and updating of drawings
Required:
  • Diploma as a Technician in Mining or related field
  • Equivalent combination of education and work experience considered
  • A minimum of two years of ventilation experience in an underground mining environment
  • Proficient working with ventilation survey equipment
  • Proficient in MS Office and 3D design software (Deswik/Vulcan/AutoCAD)
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
  • Good 3D visualization skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to build and maintain a good communication network with all stakeholders
  • Work a rotational schedule and commute to site by aircraft
Recommended:
  • Experience in other underground mine engineering functions (drafting, scheduling, geotechnical monitoring)
  • Familiarity with ventilation modelling software (Ventsim)
