Reporting to the Coordinator Environment, Compliance, the Environmental Technician is responsible for assessing and supporting ongoing environmental management and compliance associated with Teck\'s Cardinal River mine. This field-based role will focus on compliance sampling of water, soil, and air as well as data management, regulatory reporting, data requests, and data review and entry. This position follows a 9 on 5 off day shift schedule.

To be successful, we are looking for a team player with excellent interpersonal and communication skills, who can collaborate with internal operations and project teams, as well as liaise with the public, clients and government agencies. The successful individual is a self-starter who enjoys coordinating field tasks and has the ability to remain positive and motivated in inclement weather at outdoor, remote locations. This person would also have strong analytical and decision-making abilities with a proven capacity in practical problem solving.

In this position, you will be working at one of Canada\'s most unique mine sites in active closure. This position is critical to the execution of regulatory approvals and licenses, including closure and reclamation plans. As well an exciting opportunity to work with multiple consultants on CRm\xe2\x80\x99s environmental projects.

Responsibilities:

  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
  • Lead CRm\xe2\x80\x99s compliance requirements for water and soil sampling and air quality and flow monitoring
  • Implement and provide technical direction for multiple, broad based sampling and monitoring programs
  • Conduct environmental inspections and efficiency checks around water and wildlife management to support process and regulatory compliance
  • Contribute to contractor management responsibility to ensure work is being conducted safely and in accordance with the project scope
  • Understand applicable approvals, licenses, and associated requirements to support ongoing compliance
  • Lead all aspects of routine maintenance, repair, and calibration of monitoring and sample collection equipment and instrumentation
  • Develop and implement effective processes to implement and integrate projects with operations
  • Develop and review Environmental Protection Work Plans
  • Analyze environmental field and analytical data including conducting data entry and QA/QC to draft technical reports and communications
  • Educate on environmental matters and facilitate compliance assurance with departments on site
  • Provide survey support for water management; collect in field elevations and complete survey staking
Qualifications:
  • Diploma or Degree in Environmental Studies, Earth Sciences (Biology, Geography, Geology, Forestry, Agriculture), or related Natural Resource field
  • Minimum two years of experience in the field of environmental compliance or monitoring, in an industrial environment
  • Demonstrated work experience in environmental project management
  • Proficient with environmental data management software (GIS/EQuIS) and Microsoft Office Suite\xc2\xae, especially Excel
  • Valid Class 5 driver\xe2\x80\x99s license
  • Experience in water treatment would be an asset
  • Experience with drone use would be an asset
  • The ability to safely operate different equipment, such as 4x4 1-ton trucks, boats, augers, UTV/ATV, would be an asset
