Technical Writer, Laboratory & Formulation Support (Co-op)

This position reports into the Manufacturing Sciences & Technology (MS&T) Manager and is based at Guelph, Canada.

What will you do

The MS&T / R&D Technical Writer (Co-op) is responsible for supporting the MS&T Technical Writers, as well as the R&D laboratory. Specifically, the successful student is responsible for the preparation of accurate and complete scientific documentation for all aspects of the MS&T product development lifecycle from bench scale to commercialization. This includes documentation activities from a manufacturing process/formulation development perspective as well as the analytical chemistry elements. The role requires some fundamental understanding of MS&T / R&D processes to assist in the evaluation/interpretation of scientific data and trends to form and document resulting conclusions. The role also entails maintenance and management of systems for indexing, storage, and archiving of all scientific documents. The student may also support formulators in physical testing of batches, as well as GMP duties in the R&D laboratory.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare accurate and complete scientific documentation for all aspects of the MS&T product development lifecycle

• Prepare manufacturing process/formulation development scientific documentation

• Evaluate/interpret scientific data and trends to form and document resulting conclusions

• Maintenance and management of systems for indexing, storage, and archiving of all scientific documents

• Maintain up-to-date and accurate records of all work performed

• Support R&D Laboratory GMP tasks

• Miscellaneous tasks as required by formulators/project owners

Qualifications

What we are looking for

Required Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in a bachelor\'s degree program and eligible to complete a 4-8 month co-op term at our Guelph manufacturing location
• Strong organizational, documentation and communication skills
• Strong computer skills: Word, Excel and Outlook
• Strong consideration will be given if you have advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Minitab
• Basic knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices and Good Documentation Practices
• Ability to work both independently or as an integral member of the team
• Proven problem solving and multitasking capabilities

Desired Qualifications

• Preferred majors: Sciences - Chemistry, Pharmaceutical Science, Biology or Biological Sciences, Chemical Engineering, Biochemistry

• You should enjoy working to multiple deadlines in a dynamic and fast-paced team environment

• Prior experience with food, consumer or pharmaceutical industry would be considered a definite asset

• Someone who takes initiative, has a high level of attention to detail, and knows when to seek assistance will be successful in this role
