About Us
The Occupational Health and Safety Division plays a key role in workplace safety in the province of Nova Scotia. Our goal is to help make Nova Scotia the safest place to work in Canada. The Internal Responsibility System (IRS) is the foundation of the Nova Scotia Occupational Health and Safety Act, and it prescribes the legislated rights and responsibilities of workplace parties regarding health and safety.
The Division plays a supportive role in the IRS and is responsible for establishing and clarifying the responsibilities under the law. The Division aspires to continuous improvement through setting requirements, promoting, and verifying compliance, and applying enforcement options when required.
About Our Opportunity
The Technical Safety Division plays a vital role in ensuring public and workplace safety across Nova Scotia. Our mandate is to oversee the safe installation and operation of regulated equipment and systems. This position contributes directly to that mandate through engineering expertise and regulatory support.
Reporting to the Director of Compliance and Inspection, the Technical Safety Engineer will contribute to a range of safety-related programs and initiatives within the Safety Branch. With a focused discipline in electrical engineering, this role offers an excellent opportunity for a developing engineer to build their career while making a meaningful impact. The successful candidate will work closely with the Chief Electrical Inspector under the Pathways to Compliance model, providing expert guidance to help ensure electrical systems and installations meet provincial safety standards and regulatory requirements.
