Position: Technical Resources Technologist, Qualified

Division: Engineering, Distribution

Salary: $3521.60 Bi-Weekly

Under the supervision and review of the Supervising Engineer, this position will be responsible for the development and analysis of power flow models of the distribution system.

What You Get To Do:

  • System Modeling & Load Forecasting:
  • Development and maintenance of distribution power system computer models.
  • Verification of the accuracy of power flow models.
  • Load reviews and forecasting.
  • Training of entry level technologists and co-op students in power flow simulations.
  • Power Flow Analysis and System Studies:
  • Operation of power system simulation software for load flow and short circuit analysis.
  • Application of first principles to software results to verify accuracy of outputs.
  • Review of system impacts of CCM and Large D projects
  • Specification of equipment type and size.
  • Motor Start and Fault Studies:
  • Operation of power system simulation software to provide fault data for customer work.
  • Operation of power system simulation software to provide motor start data for motors up to 1500 HP.
  • Specification of maximum allowable inrush KVA levels of customer motor loads.
  • Protection and Coordination:
  • Coordination studies of major distribution devices: 25 kV breakers, re-closers, fuses, and sectionalizers.
  • Provide settings for electronic reclosers, sectionalizers.
  • Familiarity with typical customer protection and its impact to the distribution system.
  • Creating SLDs for new projects or system improvements.
  • Working with customers to understand their needs and ensure accuracy of load and equipment information.
  • Reliability Studies:
  • Support Operations in investigating outage issues.
  • Compile and understand key reliability indices (i.e. SAIFI, CAIDI).
  • Apply technical knowledge and experience to recommend a solution.
  • Power Quality Investigation:
  • Support Operations in data collection & analysis of power quality problems.
  • Install power quality monitoring equipment at customer sites.
  • Download programmable reclosers/regulators to analyze system data.
  • Analyze problems and recommend solutions to power quality problems.
Qualifications:
  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Completion of a post-secondary technology diploma in a related discipline from a recognized Canadian institute of technology
  • May be required to attain registration with A.S.E.T
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD is an asset..
  • Proficiency in CYME software is an asset.
  • Valid Class 5 operator\'s license.
  • Exceptional interpersonal, communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently as well as on project teams.
  • Ability to work under the pressure of tight timelines.
