About the position
The successful candidate will support the Underwriting Manager by acting as a senior underwriter and technical lead for underwriters in both commercial and personal lines, actively contributing to underwriting decision quality and the continuous improvement of practices. The ideal candidate will be bilingual (French and English) and reside in New Brunswick or another Atlantic province.
Your week at a glance
Play an active role in underwriting by handling certain files, particularly those involving complex or strategic risks, based on operational needs and in support of the team.
Collaborate with underwriters in assessing and evaluating underwriting files.
Act as a technical reference to support colleagues in their decision-making.
Analyze and approve underwriting requests in accordance with current policies and practices.
Support the Underwriting Manager in planning and distributing work within the team.
Follow up on audits and assist team members in developing their skills.
Identify and propose continuous improvement opportunities for processes, tools, and practices.
Participate in updating procedures and technical documentation.
Support new team members in their onboarding and professional development.
Provide technical assistance to broker partners for specific or complex inquiries.
Contribute to a collaborative, rigorous, and service-oriented work environment.
Do you have this profile?
Minimum of 7 years of relevant experience in commercial lines underwriting.
Relevant experience in personal lines is an asset.
Strong understanding of underwriting principles and the insurance market in Atlantic Canada.
Holding a professional insurance designation (e.g., CIP, CRM) is considered a strong asset and is highly encouraged.
Demonstrated willingness to pursue further professional development in insurance.
Solid knowledge of Microsoft 365 suite.
Strong communication, coaching, and simplification skills.
Influential leadership, team spirit, and ability to mobilize colleagues.
Sound judgment, analytical rigor, and a constant focus on quality.
