InnoTech Alberta is seeking a qualified scientist or engineer to assist with and lead the identification, evaluation, design and execution of fermentation processes and downstream processes for clients and partners. Oversight of day-to-day client service delivery with a focus on technical deliverables, quality control, and project development and execution will be key activities.Are you our Technical Lead, Fermentation? The Fermentation Team, located in Edmonton Alberta, is focused on bringing new biological products to market and provides scale up and de-risking services using fermentation technologies. The team operates a large-scale industrial fermentation plant that requires shift and weekend work as the fermentation plant operates 24/7.
The successful incumbent will report to the Team Manager/Senior Scientist and areas of responsibility will include supervision and execution of all aspects of delivery of fermentation services including (but not limited to) the following:
Responsible for business development including monitoring and analyzing industry market intelligence, industry best practices and emerging trends
Evaluation of client processes and design of optimized solutions
Specification and configuration of process equipment to achieve process solutions
Scale up studies
Preparation of proposals and other administrative documentation as required
Preparation of batch records
Coordination of supplies and product delivery
Execution of projects in the lab and on the plant floor and the associated data management
Oversight of general microbial lab duties
Oversight of operations and maintenance including scheduling and prioritization of tasks for the workforce and quality assurance
Oversight of staff and staff development including monitoring of productivity, work quality, workloads, deliverability of results, and adherence to policies and standards
Supports the team operational and capital financial planning, forecasting, budgeting, and reporting activitiesThe incumbent should expect to migrate through various operational positions of the fermentation facility, to ensure a strong familiarity with all aspects of the operation is acquired. Therefore flexible work hours and the ability to work in an industrial setting and lift up to 50 lbs is required.Qualifications;
A University degree, preferably at the graduate level in biochemical engineering, biological science, industrial microbiology, or a related field
Candidates with extended work experience, combined with education in a related discipline will be considered
5 years of progressively responsible experience in large scale industrial fermentation and contract production
7+ years of relevant technical experience is preferred
Familiarity with process equipment, process design and process automation
Strong computing capabilities
Demonstrated ability to work with and manage staff in a team environment (ideally 4 years or more)
Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain client and stakeholder relationships
Strong track record for generating technical proposals and securing contracts, and establishing research programs
Ability to generate respect and trust from staff and external stakeholders
Strong operational planning skills, priority management approach, and delegation abilities
Strong verbal, written, listening and interpersonal skills to convey concepts and information
People management, leadership, and coaching skills
Project management and delivery skills
