Technical Lead, Cryptographic Engineering & Strategic Partnerships, Brampton, ON



What You'll Do

Lead the end-to-end design and engineering of Loblaw's enterprise cryptographic ecosystem -- encompassing key management systems (KMS), hardware security modules (HSMs), certificate services, and secure vault technologies. Drive cryptographic innovation through advanced engineering practices -- automating, scaling, and modernizing crypto services across hybrid cloud, retail, and financial systems. Forge, nurture, and expand strategic alliances with

academia, research institutions, and government entities

to advance cryptographic science, post-quantum readiness, and cross-sector collaboration in Canada. Represent Loblaw in

national and international cybersecurity partnerships and think-tanks

, shaping policy, frameworks, and emerging standards for data protection and digital trust. Develop the organization's quantum-safe cryptography roadmap, ensuring agility and preparedness for next-generation cryptographic standards. Establish enterprise-wide cryptographic governance aligned to NIST, ISO, and OSFI guidelines, embedding strong engineering controls within critical systems and business processes. Collaborate with cloud, IAM, and infrastructure teams to embed crypto-by-design architectures and engineering patterns that scale securely and efficiently. Serve as the principal cryptographic engineer and advisor to executive leadership, guiding architectural boards, risk committees, and technology councils on secure design strategies. Mentor and lead a team of engineers and researchers, cultivating a culture of innovation, academic curiosity, and technical excellence.

What You'll Bring

Proven experience in cybersecurity or cryptographic engineering, with strong experience in a technical leadership capacity. Proven expertise with enterprise key management and hardware security module technologies (e.g., Thales, Entrust, AWS KMS, Azure Key Vault, HashiCorp Vault). Strong understanding of applied cryptography, encryption algorithms, digital signatures, PKI, and certificate lifecycle management. Deep familiarity with quantum-resistant cryptography, cryptographic agility frameworks, and post-quantum migration planning. Demonstrated experience leading cryptographic or security engineering programs within large, regulated enterprises (financial, healthcare, or retail). Exceptional ability to bridge academic research and enterprise implementation -- translating theory into practical, scalable cryptographic solutions. Track record of building partnerships with universities, research labs, standards organizations, and cybersecurity alliancesto co-develop technologies and share expertise. Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to influence executive and technical audiences alike. Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Cryptography, Mathematics, or Information Security. PhD or research collaboration experience is an asset. Professional certifications such as CISSP, CISM, or specialized credentials in cryptography (e.g., GCLD, CCSK, CCSP) are considered advantageous.
