ROLE
The Design Technician supports hospitality, mixed-use, and multi-residential projects by developing design solutions, producing construction documents, and coordinating with project teams. This role requires technical expertise, problem-solving skills, and a commitment to design excellence.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Interpret and understand project briefs and conceptual design to create comprehensive drawings & specifications, with guidance.
Verify design drawings conform to specifications and 3D models.
Resolve technical and design issues with innovative solutions.
Adhere to strict internal drawing standards, documentation procedures, and time tracking.
Participate in design development, construction documentation, and contract administration phases.
Coordinate with designers and project managers to resolve design conflicts.
Review submittals, respond to RFIs, and issue Site Instructions as required.
Self-guided quality assurance for each submission.
Meet project deadlines.
Communicate workload and support needs within the team.
QUALIFICATIONS:
1-3 years Interior Design experience, specializing in hospitality and high-rise residential design.
Diploma or degree in Interior Design, Building Technology or Architecture.
Excellence in AutoCAD.
Proficiency in Sketchup, Adobe Creative Suite, Bluebeam, and Microsoft 365
Experience with BIM models and CadMakers reports an asset but not a requirement.
Good knowledge of building codes, design detailing, construction and millwork practices.
Good understanding of design stages and construction sequencing, and deliverables and level of detailing for each stage.
Excellent communication, organization, and multitasking skills.
Strong organizational skills with the flexibility to work on multiple projects at the same time in a fast-paced environment.
Passionate about design with a strong technical portfolio.
