The Hiring Pool Process

In accordance with the collective agreement, we have established a Hiring Pool to streamline our hiring process and efficiently fill multiple positions in the coming months. Please note that these opportunities are province-wide, as we will be using the Hiring Pool to backfill new vacancies across the entire province.

The Technical Architect Role

As a Technical Architect with Mission IT, NSDS, you will contribute to a 24/7 operational environment, providing critical digital services for government and health care sectors. Your support will impact various government departments, agencies, boards, commissions, and offices, as well as Nova Scotia Health and the IWK. You will lead and participate in projects and initiatives that enhance the lives of Nova Scotia citizens, making a significant difference.

You will devise innovative solutions for complex business problems by understanding client requirements and system capabilities. As a Tier 3 support, you will directly assist clients with intricate issues and act as the first point of contact, representing the organization. Your ability to communicate technical solutions using non-technical, business language will be essential.

Thriving on technical challenges, you will ensure the effective availability, deployment, and maintenance of digital solutions for the Government of Nova Scotia, meeting or exceeding customer service standards. You will be responsible for the availability and security of digital solutions in your portfolio and for refining our processes to maintain consistent service levels with a focus on continual service improvement.

As a team lead and mentor within a team of specialists and analysts, you will foster effective, collaborative relationships with clients, team members, peers, colleagues, and management, characterized by mutual trust and respect.

Additional Technical Architect Responsibilities
  • Lead teams supporting daily administration, monitoring, and maintenance of digital solutions and infrastructure.
  • Oversee deployment and maintenance of digital solutions, exceeding client expectations.
  • Provide specialized technical services for clients.
  • Participate in on-call rotation for critical 24x7 applications.
  • Offer Tier 3 support and problem resolution to team members and clients.
  • Maintain hardware, software, and resolve incidents.
  • Support ITIL Service Support processes for consistent service levels.
  • Deliver exceptional client service within established standards.
  • Lead project teams and provide subject matter expertise on broader projects.
  • Understand client priorities and their impact when digital services are not functioning.
  • Maintain digital systems and infrastructure, ensuring consistent connectivity and accessibility.
  • Provide remote and onsite Tier 3 support for hardware, software, and printers.
Qualifications and Experience

To excel in this role, you will possess a bachelor\'s degree in Information Technology with a minimum of five years\' experience or have graduated from a recognized Information Technology or Information Management program with five years and six months of experience (or an equivalent combination of training and experience).

You will have the following skills and experience:
  • Extensive experience in complex enterprise environments and managing infrastructure projects/teams.
  • Proficiency in various computing technologies (e.g., desktop software, operating systems, device/print management systems, Microsoft technologies like M365, Exchange, etc.).
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated experience in identifying and implementing improvement opportunities.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to changing business priorities.
Assets for the role:
  • Experience in on-premises and cloud-based environments, supporting large, mission-critical (7x24) environments.
  • Knowledge of project management methodology, ITIL processes, and IT and Security policies and procedures in Government.
Other Considerations

Please be aware of the following aspects related to this position:

Work Location and Transportation: As the nature of this role may require you to work on-site, your work locations could span across government buildings, healthcare facilities, or hospitals. Consequently, having access to reliable transportation is essential.

On-call and Shift Work: You will need to participate in the scheduled on-call rotation for frontline support (on-site) outside standard business hours, including weekends. Additionally, shift work may involve working night shifts, weekends, and holidays.

Criminal Records Check: As part of your terms of employment, you will be required to provide proof of a clean criminal records check.

Immunization Requirements: An immunization form must be completed, confirming your immunity to the following diseases, or that blood work or vaccinations are scheduled or in progress:
  • Measles, Mumps, Rubella (vaccination date)
  • Tetanus, Diphtheria, Pertussis (vaccination date)
  • Varicella (vaccination date, or blood work to confirm antibodies that would be present if the person had chickenpox)
Pay Grade: PR 17

Salary Range: $3,091.70 - $3,631.17 Bi-Weekly
