Nutrition International's Programs Unit is responsible for ensuring the efficient and effective delivery of Nutrition International's core program interventions including program development, design, planning, implementation, monitoring and reporting, and grant management, including setting annual operational planning, budgeting, and review processes. The team leads on the quality assurance of and technical support to Nutrition International's research and programs to influence and improve national and global policies and practice. The unit comprises a global team of professionals located in our 10 core countries across Asia, Africa and our headquarters in Ottawa, Canada. About you





You are someone with a postgraduate level degree, masters or doctorate in nutrition, public health or other health-related disciplines including medical, nursing and midwifery. You have at least five years of demonstrated experience in international development work in low and middle-income countries designing, implementing and monitoring maternal or newborn/infant health and/or nutrition programs, using a population or public health approach. You have demonstrated the successful completion of work assignments in one or more low and middle-income countries.



You have demonstrated knowledge of and experience with implementation research projects and knowledge translation and solid experience integrating nutrition into more comprehensive maternal and child health care, including application of technical knowledge and bringing together stakeholders from diverse networks. You are experienced in International Development project management, including financial management and have the ability to communicate to a variety of audiences, including the general public (e.g. blogs), country-level decision-makers (e.g. evidence briefs) and scientific (e.g. publishable manuscripts for peer-reviewed journals).



Fluency in English is required. French will be considered an asset.



About the role





In this role you will:



Technical support to program design, planning and management*: work closely with the NI Regional and Country Offices to plan and deliver technical advisory inputs, and/or quality assurance of program planning, implementation, monitoring, assessment, and reporting in the subject area as required. Collaborate with regional and country staff to identify appropriate consultants to support implementation, analysis and/or reporting. Conceptualize and help design research components for NI country programs.
Disseminate knowledge and best practice within NI*: Stay abreast of the latest knowledge and best practices related to programs relevant to the subject matter focus; prepare/ participate in briefings, web and in-person seminars to inform NI staff about new knowledge, clearly interpreting relevance for NI programs and implications for changes in practice by NI.
NI Program Analysis and Documentation*: analyze reports from NI programs and synthesize summary reports on NI work in the subject area for donors, NI publications and/or other stakeholders.
External Profile*: as directed, and in close coordination with other units, represent NI's work in the subject area externally, including creating and following through on opportunities for (a) representation at international meetings; (b) publications and presentations; (c) policy advocacy; (d) coordination and collaboration with partners; (e) stewarding NI's donors.
Resource Mobilization*: as directed, and in close coordination with other units, engage in (a) concept development, identification and follow up of new opportunities; (b) meetings with donors and partners re new opportunities; (c) contributions to the development of concept notes and proposals in the subject area.
Innovations*: work closely with the Regional and Country Offices to support innovation and the application of innovative approaches in NI programs in the subject area.
Program and Financial Management*: This will include undertaking the following in line with NI Policies and Procedures (a) development of costed project designs and the associated project documentation; (b) specification of work to be sub contracted, and the identification, selection and engagement of appropriate individuals or institutions to carry it out under NI management; (c) monitoring and performance management of sub-contractors and grantees and preparing progress reports; (d) development of project enabling agreements with partners and stakeholders; (e) financial tracking and management of all assigned project work using NI's contracts database.



International travel may be required for 1-3 weeks and usually for not more than 40 days per year.
