Profile of Kids@ Churchill Park - Kahanoff Child Care Centre:
Serving children ages 0 months to 6 years
Program runs 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. - Monday to Friday
7.5 hour shift with a 1 hour unpaid break, Monday to Friday
Location: 105 12 Ave SE, Calgary, AB, T2G 1A1
Duties and Responsibilities
Provide a warm, nurturing, and inclusive environment that supports the safety, belonging, and meaningful participation of all children
Support the emotional, social, physical, and intellectual development of children, with particular attention to children with extra support needs
Provide direct support to inclusive children to promote engagement in daily routines, play, and learning experiences
Implement developmentally appropriate, open-ended learning experiences, including art and play-based activities, that encourage creativity, confidence, and self-expression
Collaborate with educators to adapt activities, routines, and environments to reduce barriers and support individual needs
Arrange and maintain the learning environment in alignment with the program's vision and objectives
Observe, document, and reflect on children's learning and development, contributing to individual portfolios and inclusive support documentation as required
Support the implementation of individualized strategies and accommodations recommended through Inclusive Child Care supports or centre management
Maintain accurate and up-to-date records, including attendance, documentation, checklists, and timesheets
Participate in staff meetings, professional learning opportunities, and internal and external workshops, including those related to inclusive practices
Work collaboratively with the team to ensure all licensing standards are understood and consistently met
Provide flexible support across the centre as needed, contributing to a positive and supportive team environment
Qualifications, Skills and Professional Attributes
Alberta Child Care Certification - Level 1 minimum
Valid First Aid and CPR certification and a current Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Search or willingness to obtain within 90 days of hire
Experience and knowledge supporting children with extra support needs in an inclusive child care setting
Familiarity with behaviour guidance strategies, visual supports, and individualized support plans is an asset
Ability to collaborate with external professionals and inclusion supports as needed
Understanding of strength-based and evidence-informed approaches is an asset
Demonstrate knowledge of current best practices and professional standards in early learning and child care
Experience observing, documenting, and supporting emergent curriculum
Knowledge of Alberta's curriculum framework (FLIGHT) is an asset
Demonstrated knowledge of the Alberta Child Care Licensing Regulation
Strong communication, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
Ability to build and maintain positive, respectful relationships with families and colleagues
Demonstrated teamwork skills, flexibility, and willingness to support the broader centre team
Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to adapt to changing priorities
Open to coaching, feedback, reflective practice, and shared leadership
Commitment to ongoing learning through participation in professional development opportunities
Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism at all times
