Community Support Services is a Drop in and Outreach program where you will demonstrate absolute respect to youth that will allow them to know their worth.
Community Support Services is a low-barrier, safe, and non-judgmental environment where youth are supported to address every aspect of wellbeing - health, emotional, and spiritual. You will supervise and support a team of youth workers to provide services from an attachment-based and trauma-informed model of care proven to support youth at greatest risk in our community. You will have the opportunity to build transformative relationship with youth and reduce the risks of street homelessness and drug use. Through relentless engagement, the CHV continuum of care will expand to connect with youth where they are at because we feel it should be "one size fits one" when it comes to supporting young people.
How you will contribute:
Greet and welcome youth accessing CHV services, assess and respond to their immediate needs, and provide them with practical resources including food, clothing, transportation
Initiate, develop and maintain relationships with at risk youth 16-24 years of age
Work collaboratively with other staff to assist youth in identifying attainable short and long-term goals, strategies for meeting these goals, and an action plan for implementation
Responsible for direct implementation of Covenant House philosophy and policies as they pertain to residential care
Assign shift responsibilities and duties
Coordinate intakes, incidents and assess suitability for service
Ensure structure and adherence to daily routines
Ensure quality control in case management
Manage crisis intervention including briefing, debriefing
Facilitate team meetings including shift change
Supervise youth workers on shift
Co-ordinate youth workers on shift
Oversee therapeutic milieu
Ensure adherence to and role model Covenant House principles and core values
Ensure safety and security of clients, staff, and property
Provide crisis intervention, including responding to overdoes/administering first aid and Naloxone that may happen within CHV premises, ongoing training will also be provided
Regular security checks of interior and exterior of building
Other duties as required

Compensation
The successful candidate can expect a starting hourly rate of between $31.58 and $39.47 depending on factors such as internal equity, experience, competencies, and education. Once hired, the hourly rates are reviewed annually following the annual performance review and successful employees have the opportunity for their hourly rate to increase, over time, up to the maximum of the pay band, currently $47.36.
Who are we looking for?
Education and Experience:
Diploma or degree in related social service or experience working in a low barrier setting
Minimum 2 years' experience in a supervisory role in a similar setting
First Aid & Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Training is an asset
Evidence of compliance with the Province's immunization and tuberculosis control programs is required
Competencies:
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Familiar with the challenges facing youth who are experiencing homelessness or housing instability
Familiarity with substance misuse
Ability to maintain professional boundaries with the Youth
Leadership and team building skills
