Calgary's science centre is a pioneer in science entertainment and programming, with roots dating back to 1967. Home to one of Western Canada's largest dome theatre, the Digital Immersion Gallery, VR experiences, and innovative spaces like Steven's Lab, where interactive experiments unfold before your eyes. From the robot-dog Flint to Canada's first robot-coa5ter, R05iE, and a 15-acre park surrounding the science of the developing brain, Spark is a hub for creative encounters.

Position Overview

The Team Lead, Kitchen reports directly to Manager, Food and Beverage. The Team Lead, Kitchen is responsible for daily kitchen operations by guiding staff during food preparation, cooking, and service. This role acts as the "lead on shift," ensuring workflow runs smoothly, food quality meets standards, and all health and safety procedures are followed. The Team Lead also assist in inventory control and scheduling, work directly with Food and Beverage Manager while achieving the required outcomes with time spans of up to 3 months.

Key Responsibilities

Maintain a strong team of employees focused on a high level of professional service and guest satisfaction. Provide on-the-job guidance, coaching, and support to kitchen staff, assist with training new employees Maintain high standards for food quality, recipe accuracy, and portion consistency. Lead kitchen team during daily shift, assign tasks based on priorities and staffing levels. Ensure food handling, storage, and preparation meet all Health and Safety standards. Place orders for products needed for Eatery kitchen operations, following approved purchasing procedures. Monitor and maintain stock levels of ingredients and supplies, support inventory rotation (FIFO) and reduce food waste Collecting feedback from staff, guests and suppliers, provide input regarding ongoing plans, directions, sales goals, targets and strategies for food services. Ensure personal and team activities are aligned with business and strategic goals of Spark as a whole. Model high performance, flexibility and kindness in a rapidly changing growth environment.



Other duties as required and assigned.

Qualifications & Knowledge

A minimum of 2 years experience or expertise in food service

Previous lead or management experience preferred.

A solid understanding of food safety procedures and kitchen operations

Working towards or have achieved your Red Seal Certification is a definite asset.

An active listener who is also a confident, articulate, concise, factual and intuitive communicator able to communicate at multiple levels as needed, both internally and externally.

Lead kitchen team that is results driven but still focusing on guest expectation and satisfaction.

Flexible work schedule, requiring to work weekends and evenings.

A proven track record of adding value to an organization's culture and initiatives.

A positive attitude!

Desire to work on a high performing team with a continuous upgrading culture to achieve high impact results. Fluidity and a desire to work hard and grow are essential.

A high degree of creativity with the ability to leave your ego at the door.

Willingness to learn and adapt to change.
