Recognizing that Black, Indigenous, and other Racialized communities have experienced inequities that have developed historically and are ongoing, we strongly welcome and encourage candidates from those communities to apply.Your opportunity:As part of a dynamic team, you will supervise the day-to-day work of the Disability Consultant Team at the University of Toronto Scarborough and provide case management leadership in the provision of academic accommodations for students with disabilities. You will assign new intakes to members of the team; consult and guide Disability Consultants on complex student accommodations and support needs; provide training for new Disability Consultants and give input into the development of effective practices, procedures and processes to ensure the effective delivery of accessible services and supports within AccessAbility Services.As Team Lead, you will maintain your own caseload of undergraduate and graduate students with complex needs and disabilities with an expertise in mental health and co-morbid conditions. Using a holistic approach, you will work with an ethno-culturally and academically diverse student population to perform assessments of students\' needs; ensure appropriate documentation has been received and reviewed; assess confidential medical/psychological documentation; follow up with medical professionals for clarification or to ascertain further information; develop, recommend and implement accommodations and strategies based on individual students\' disabilities; evaluate and modify existing accommodations and assist students in self-monitoring the effectiveness of accommodations; make referrals and ensure appropriate documentation is forwarded.In addition, you will work with staff and faculty to develop effective accommodations in complex circumstances considering the academic integrity of the program of study, due process and effective cost management. You will also collaborate and frequently work with the Student Crisis Response & Academic Progress Case Coordinators, Student Welfare Case Coordinator, the tri-campus Academic Progress & Support and Crisis Team, departments within the Office of Student Experience and Wellbeing, the Office of the Registrar at UTSC and the Faculty in Academic Departments at UTSC to support students\' accommodations and academic supports. You will also be required to attend meetings and make presentations within and outside the University community that promote an understanding of the work of UTSC\'s AccessAbility Services and the needs of students with disabilities and provide input into effective communication strategies for students, faculty and staff.Your responsibilities will include:

  • Overseeing day-to-day operational needs and service delivery requirements of programs
  • Providing case management support to students requiring the coordination of multiple services
  • Developing student assessment plans to support student learning outcomes and competencies
  • Developing accommodation plans for students based on their learning profile and documentation (more specifically, developing student accommodation and support plans to support learning outcomes and wellbeing for students primarily with complex mental health needs)
  • Facilitating psychoeducational workshops that promote the development of coping strategies and skills
  • Developing and implementing academic and/or social skill building programs independently
  • Liaising with course instructors and staff to ensure students receive support required for academic, practicum and/or placement accommodations
  • Counselling students on health issues related to their learning and the effects of their disability
Essential Qualifications:
  • Master\'s degree in Social Work, Counselling, Education and/or a relevant disability-related field such as rehabilitation services, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Minimum five (5) years of related case management experience working with adults with complex mental health needs with co-morbid conditions, including extensive experience assessing risk and managing mental health crisis
  • Minimum three (3) years of experience developing, implementing and monitoring accommodations for persons with mental health disabilities, with co-morbid conditions
  • Minimum two (2) years of experience leading and supervising a team, directing the work of others, facilitating team meetings, providing orientation and job-related training, planning and implementing the workflow for the team and participating on recruitment panels
  • Demonstrated understanding of disability, ableism and student success issues in a post-secondary environment and ability to advise students in an academic context
  • Must have demonstrated expertise in developing, implementing and monitoring accommodations for academic programs for adults with a range of disabilities, with a high level of knowledge of mental health accommodations and supports
  • Must be able to communicate clearly and professionally both orally and in writing, including effectively delivering presentations
  • Must have the ability to negotiate complex situations and work in constantly evolving situations
  • Demonstrated ability to synthesize knowledge and display sound judgment, problem solving skills, attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy
  • Must demonstrate superior organizational skills, and a proven ability to multi-task and work well under pressure in a fast paced environment with strict deadlines
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and within a team environment with a commitment to being flexible, sensitive and creative
  • Must have sound knowledge of the Ontario Human Rights Code and the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act and their applications within post-secondary education
  • Excellent proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and data management systems.
  • Must show evidence of a commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion, and the promotion of a respectful and collegial learning and working environment. Must be able to demonstrate an understanding of the implications of specific disabilities as they relate to a student\'s success at university and in a broader context. Must also have an understanding of the strengths and challenges of adults with disabilities and have knowledge of cultural views of disability.
