Position Description
The individual plays a key role in supporting the daily operations of the Customs Processing Centre. This Team Lead, Customs Operations position is responsible for ensuring smooth workflow within the department, assisting team members with daily functions, and providing guidance to newer or less experienced staff. The role also supports the CPC Operations Manager in administrative and operational tasks related to customs clearance and compliance.

  • Provide daily operational guidance and support to team members.
  • Review invoices, manifests, and related documents for accuracy and compliance with customs and company standards.
  • Resolve complex inquiries from internal teams and external customers.
  • Ensure client instructions are clearly understood and properly executed.
  • Collect and verify required customs documents, including commercial invoices and declarations.
  • Mentor team members and support ongoing skill development.
  • Assist the Operations Manager with customs initiatives and administrative tasks.
  • Handle PGA-related inquiries and ensure timely CBSA release processing across all modes.
  • Maintain accurate, compliant import accounting in line with CBSA deadlines.
  • Input shipment data into the ITMR4 system and follow up on missing information with clients, carriers, or vendors.
  • Process COD payments, arrange deliveries when necessary, and ensure prompt, accurate billing.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned to support operational efficiency.
Experience
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in customs operations.
  • Strong knowledge of Canadian customs laws, including OGD requirements, customs valuation, GST/HST application, and temporary import regulations.
  • Proficient understanding of the Customs Tariff, related regulations, and release procedures.
Qualifications
  • High accuracy in data entry with attention to detail.
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure and meet strict deadlines.
  • Demonstrated leadership and team-building skills; effective communication with colleagues, customers, and vendors.
  • Excellent time management and prioritization abilities.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with sound judgment.
  • Exceptional customer service mindset with professional verbal and written communication skills.
  • Organized, proactive, and self-motivated.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel.
Education
  • College diploma in Customs Brokerage or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Customs Certified Specialist (CCS) designation preferred.
