Job Description

The Wetaskiwin School Division is seeking a temporary Full-Time Literacy Teacher. This position is comprised of two distinct but complementary roles:

0.5 FTE Centralized Literacy Intervention (Division-based) 0.5 FTE Early Literacy Teacher at Griffiths-Scott School (School-based)

Centralized Literacy Intervention Position (0.5 FTE) responsibilities:



This portion of the role focuses onsystem-wide literacy improvement, supporting schools through coaching, professional learning, and data-informed practices.

Responsibilities include:

Supporting the development and implementation of division-wide literacy frameworks and intervention models. Working with schools and central teams to support universal screening, diagnostics, and progress monitoring. Analyzing division and school-level literacy data to identify trends and monitor impact. Collaborate with central office teams (Learning Services, Inclusive Education, Indigenous Education) to ensure coherent literacy supports. Reporting literacy progress and implementation outcomes to senior administration. Design and deliver professional learning, coaching cycles, and resources for teachers, EAs, and literacy interventionists. Support alignment of curriculum, instruction, assessment, and intervention using evidence-based literacy practices (Science of Reading, structured literacy). Participate in the analysis of division and school-level literacy data to identify trends, target supports, and monitor impact. Report on literacy progress, implementation fidelity, and outcomes to senior administration.

Griffiths Scott Early Literacy Teacher (0.5 FTE) responsibilities:



This portion of the role focuses on direct student support within Griffiths-Scott School, serving approximately 260 students in Grades K-8.

Responsibilities include:

Providing small-group and individualized literacy instruction using evidence-based practices. Collaborating with Kindergarten and primary teachers to support differentiated early literacy instruction. Collecting and analyzing student data to monitor progress and inform instruction. Participating in school literacy meetings and professional learning. Supporting and promoting the school's literacy plan and initiatives.
Preferred candidates will exhibit the following qualifications and attributes:

B.Ed. Elementary Generalist. Previous experience as a literacy teacher. Inclusive education philosophy and experience. Familiar with: Professional Learning Community model AB Ed's Early Literacy & Numeracy Assessment Framework Understanding of literacy assessment and timeframes Understanding of the Responding to Interventions philosophy Inclusive education philosophy and experience Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for interacting with students, teachers, parents/guardians. An ability to work collaboratively as part of an educational team. Knowledge and experience using emerging technologies to inform practice and transform learning via Google Apps for Education and other cloud-based apps. Commitment to complete Health and Safety Training as prescribed by the Board. Promote a safe and positive learning environment for all students.

Pay: $64,795.00-$111,471.00 per year
