Vacancy Description: Teacher Consultant: Physical and Health
Education (PHE)
This is a Continuing position of a one-year
term with the possibility of renewal. A Teacher
Consultant: Physical and Health Education (PHE) will
be required to provide leadership in curriculum, instruction and professional
learning focused on physical literacy, healthy and active living, social and
community health, as well as mental well-being. This includes, but is not
limited to, designing, implementing, and leading effective professional
learning initiatives related to the primary responsibilities of the role. The position
is intended to be an integral part of the district team of consultants and may,
therefore, be involved in a wide variety of cross-curricular initiatives and
supports aligned or connected to the work of others in the department.
This position works with district staff and
schools to develop and support the implementation of the Physical and Health
Education (PHE) curriculum. The curriculum aims to empower students to develop
a personalized understanding of what healthy living means and is designed to
develop educated citizens who have the knowledge, skills, and understandings
they need to be safe, active, and healthy citizens throughout their lives.
The successful applicant must demonstrate a
comprehensive understanding of the PHE curriculum as well as the Supporting
Student Health Guides (Elementary and Secondary). All positions within Learning
Services engage in supporting the District's Strategic Plan.
The successful applicant will:
support
district and schoolwide initiatives as well as the implementation of the BC
school curriculum related to physical literacy, healthy and active living,
social and community health, as well as mental well-being
be
responsible for designing and implementing professional development
opportunities for teachers, education assistants, youth workers, and/or parents
at the district and school level
be
knowledgeable and informed about community partners in the field of PHE
be
expected to work collaboratively with classroom teachers, resource teachers, counsellors,
education assistants, youth workers, district staff, and community partners
work closely with staff in both the
Curriculum and Student Services areas within Learning Services
build capacity with the delivery of sexual
health education in elementary schools
support teaching staff with the implementation
and delivery of all aspects of the K - 12 PHE curriculum, including the areas
of consent education, substance use, and healthy decision-making
Qualifications:
The successful applicant will be a
fully qualified and experienced teacher with demonstrated competencies in
addressing a wide range of student needs and must have demonstrated:
experienced
teacher with an excellent conceptual understanding and proven working
experience with key concepts, skills, and pedagogy of the Ministry Education's
K-12 curriculum.
demonstrated competencies,
current academic and professional experience in leading-edge pedagogy in PHE
across the K - 12 curriculum
current
and successful leadership experiences in the design and implementation of
professional development opportunities for small and large groups
experience
proposing, analyzing and creating strategies to respond, develop and promote
health and well-being for all stakeholders
experience
in de-mystifying and de-stigmatizing issues related to social and community
health as well as mental well-being
understanding
the importance of, and demonstrated success in, collaboration and coordination
of initiatives with relevant personnel and community partners
exceptional
organization, time management, communication, and prioritizing skills
Candidates will be
expected to present a portfolio that demonstrates the required competencies
outlined in this position. Preference will be given to the candidate with a relevant Master's Degree or specialized
