Calgary Quest School (CQS) is accredited by Alberta Education as a Designated Special Education Private School. At CQS, we serve students ages 6-19 years with severe disabilities, in a caring, inclusive, safe, respectful, and sustainable educational environment. Our team of teachers, therapists, and instructional assistants, work together to deliver the best outcomes for our students in their social, emotional, and educational journey.

OVERVIEW

Our teachers report to our Principal, in compliance with CQS policies, Teacher Qualification Standards, and The Education Act. Our teachers demonstrate the following competencies:

Accommodate students with diverse learning needs and abilities. Coordinate Individual Program Plans (IPPs) in collaboration with our multidisciplinary therapy team and classroom instructional assistants. Demonstrate a high degree of professional competence in planning, teaching, and assessing learning. Collaborate with students, parents, and colleagues. Be committed to ongoing professional development. Participate as an effective team member in the implementation of the school's philosophy, goals, and objectives. Promote a safe and caring learning environment for students.

QUALIFICATIONS

Valid Alberta Teaching Certificate Bachelor of Education Degree or experience and equivalent recognized by Alberta Education Experience in supporting students with severe disabilities is considered an asset

Experience with promoting educational success for students with moderate to severe disabilities; Lead by example; High level of written and verbal communication skills; Excellent interpersonal skills; High levels of integrity, ethics, and professionalism; Empathy and respect for children; Flexibility and creative problem-solving skills; The ability to resolve and manage conflict; Skills to effectively communicate with a wide range of stakeholders from diverse backgrounds and sectors; Ability to deal with sensitive and confidential material.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

This position requires lifting and carrying demands that require the ability to bend at the waist, stoop, and twist frequently, the ability to lift 50 pounds, the ability to carry, push and pull 50 pounds, and the ability to stand, walk and sit frequently. This includes walking up to 3 kms to support students with community outings.
