HOURS: 6.5 hours per day
POSITION DESCRIPTION:
Under the direction of the Director of School & Classroom Supports, School Administrator and/or the Supervisor of Student and
Family Supports, the Child and Youth Care Support Worker works as part of the Divisional School & Classroom Supports Team to
provide supplementary support to students with additional needs impacting their education. The incumbent will provide support to
identified students, will assist in communication with students and guardians and provide transportation to school, and/or
supervise students in a variety of settings as required. In addition to supporting integration or re-integration into the school
system, the incumbent will collaborate with team members to support student behaviour, as well as personal and life skill goals.
Responsibilities also include complying with current legislation and LRSD policies, administrative guidelines and protocols, and
attend staff, team and other scheduled meetings as required. The support worker will also ensure guidance of students\xe2\x80\x99 behaviour
that encourages a positive self-concept, assist with connecting assigned students to programs, supporting children and youth, and
perform other related duties as assigned.

REQUIRED AND PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: \xe2\x80\xa2
successful completion of a Youth Care Education Program (minimum 2 year program) or Bachelor of Social Work or the equivalent post-secondary education required \xe2\x80\xa2
experience providing skills and knowledge to work with children and youth experiencing behavioural and emotional difficulties required \xe2\x80\xa2
completion of Working Effectively with Violent and Aggressive Students (WEVAS) or equivalent training is strongly preferred \xe2\x80\xa2
First Aid and CPR training completed within the probationary period (90 working days) \xe2\x80\xa2
valid Manitoba Driver\xe2\x80\x99s licence, driver\xe2\x80\x99s abstract, and access to a reliable vehicle are required \xe2\x80\xa2
knowledge of current legislation and protocols (i.e.) Mental Health Act, Child, Family and Community Services Act (Child Protection), and Young Offenders Act, etc. and the ability to maintain the confidentiality of sensitive information seen or heard \xe2\x80\xa2
demonstrate and exemplify personal leadership qualities that embody self-responsibility, community building and positive life choices \xe2\x80\xa2
ability to establish and maintain respectful relationships with children, youth and adults \xe2\x80\xa2
demonstrated ability to work independently \xe2\x80\xa2
sound judgement, good problem solving skills and the ability to interpret situations accurately and respond accordingly \xe2\x80\xa2
ability to employ prevention or intervention strategies for self-harm or substance use reduction \xe2\x80\xa2
knowledge of or training in crisis intervention, anger and behavior management techniques \xe2\x80\xa2
ability to assess situations, formulate strategies and intervene to help students identify and resolve concerns and enhance their quality of life including: \xe2\x80\xa2
ability to explain concepts and issues to students and develop rapport on a one-to-one basis and in group settings \xe2\x80\xa2
ability to assist students in expressing themselves and engage in collaborative problem-solving \xe2\x80\xa2
demonstrated ability to work effectively as a team member \xe2\x80\xa2
excellent multi-cultural competence, interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills \xe2\x80\xa2
demonstrated effective time management and organizational skills \xe2\x80\xa2
physical ability to perform the duties and responsibilities of the job
