Summary
Reporting to the
Ford Keast LLP
Tax Partner, the Tax Technician provides essential support on a wide range of tax compliance and planning matters to ensure the delivery of exceptional client service. The Tax Technician will independently manage key tax tasks and collaborate with senior team members on complex files. This role offers an excellent opportunity to apply and expand your skills in a specialized tax environment. The role plays a key part in upholding the Firm's proactive, collaborative, and positive culture, supporting the success of both our team and our clients.

Position Duties:
Support annual personal tax (T1) season, including organization and preparation of T1 returns.
Liaise with the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) to open/close accounts, respond to queries, obtain and summarize client data
Prepare and respond to CRA information requests, reviews, and audits in collaboration with Tax Team or other team members
Assist with preparation of elections, forms, and related calculations, with supervision
Track deadlines and project milestones, keep tasks updated using Tax Team tracking system
Prepare basic trust/estate and corporate returns as required
Support US tax season, including preparation of Excel working papers, extensions, FBARs, and routine 1040 and 1040NR filings
Maintain positive and professional client relationships, ensuring timely responses to requests
Contribute to the Firm's positive reputation through quality, accuracy, exceptional client service
Requirements:
Diploma or certificate in accounting, legal, or office administration
Experience in an office setting with government forms and frequent filing deadlines requiring lead time and planning
Willingness to work additional hours as needed - may be outside traditional tax "busy season" depending on transactions in progress and work volume of the team
Experience with tax preparation software (Taxprep) and accounting software (CaseWare/CaseView, Sage, QuickBooks) an asset
Experience with bookkeeping and payroll an asset
