Job Title Tax Research and Compliance Manager



What is the opportunity?

You will provide support, training, and review of complex fund distributions, tax factor, and tax return process. Success will be achieved by being aware of the tax reporting requirements of investment funds and communicating to internal and external departments these rules in an understandable way in order to be implemented. The desired result will be that tax reporting requirements are provided in a way that provides high quality services to RBC Investor and Treasury Services clients, their investors, and reduces the risk of distribution and/or other tax reporting errors.

What will you do?

  • Review new fund tax reporting requirements and liaise internally to setup the fund to meet tax reporting requirements. The focus will be on funds where there are complexities and/or fund specific issues which impact distributions.
  • Lead tax reporting activities in fund events and work with internal teams to enable them to meet client deliverables.
  • Oversee Fund Distribution including review of Fund distributions, and train fund accountants on distribution theory. Research and review new and/or changes to tax regulations, prepare related technical memorandum for distribution internally to Fund Accounting and externally to clients.
  • Review complex corporation actions and advise on tax treatment for processing.
  • Review complex tax deliverables.
  • Provide customer service by responding to inquiries and requests from internal departments and clients as needed
  • Participate as needed in the pre and post year end tax meetings with clients, auditors and internal departments.
  • Participate in Industry Tax Groups and Seminars
  • Train Tax Reporting Analysts, contractors on tax deliverables.
What do you need to succeed?

Must have:
  • Business Degree, together with CPA, CGA or CPA, CA or equivalent
  • 5+ years of related tax reporting experience in the investment fund industry or public accounting preferably in the financial services industry
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Proven organizational and time management skills
Nice to have:
  • CICA In-Depth Tax Course
  • Industry related courses (CSC, or CFA)
  • Experience in investment fund taxation
  • Project management skills
