The workload:
From February to April, we prioritize our individual clients, which means above-average hours. From May to January, our attention shifts to supporting Sole Proprietors and Incorporated clients, and we embrace a hybrid schedule with reduced hours and remote work.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership
Mentor and coach a small team with honest, timely feedback
Support ongoing training and development
Participate in recruiting junior staff
Lead the review process for T1 returns
Collaborate with the leadership team on business strategy
Workload
Prioritize multiple tax filing requirements
Work effectively with other business units
Facilitate preparation, review, and submission of T2 returns
Maintain strong control procedures across all areas of the tax unit
Stay current with legislative and regulatory tax changes
Competencies
Strong understanding of Canadian tax rules (Individuals, Sole Proprietors, Corporate)
Accounting and bookkeeping proficiency
Strong analytical and research abilities
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Strong organizational and prioritization skills
Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
Education
Certificates/diplomas in personal and corporate tax programs
Certificates/diplomas in bookkeeping and payroll
Nice to have (but not required): bachelor's degree, second language
Experience
3+ years in corporate tax preparation and filing
Experience within the financial services industry
Exposure to a variety of client industries
Leadership experience guiding and mentoring junior staff
Experience analyzing client financial statements
Ability to communicate with clients on potentially sensitive topics
