Your Opportunity
We are looking for a Tax Manager to join our passionate, collaborative and results-driven Global Talent Mobility team. As part of the larger HR Talent Services team of subject matter experts focused on employee experience, this role will be responsible for managing the tax compliance for our globally mobile population, including international assignments, international relocations, short term business travelers and our international remote work population. You will closely partner with our finance and payroll teams to ensure end to end tax compliance and work collaboratively, influence and educate internal and external stakeholders, acting as a subject matter expert.
Your Key Responsibilities
Support the global mobility team in conversations with the business regarding the tax implications of an assignment or relocation and assist with the preparation of cost estimates by providing the relevant tax estimates.
Partner with our payroll teams and tax service provider to determine the optimal payroll setup in the home and host locations to ensure end-to-end compliance. Provide the appropriate payroll instructions to our payroll teams and support with processing and implementation.
Manage the overall employee and employer tax compliance and reporting obligations for our assignment population and business travelers, including shadow payroll, annual tax returns, social security certificates of coverage and year-end reconciliations.
Oversee year-end timelines for each country to ensure the applicable assignment information is reported in home and host country payrolls (including all assignment benefits, foreign tax information and tax equalization balances).
Manage the administration of our Tax Equalization Policy, including advising of the appropriate hypothetical tax deduction, assisting payroll with any reconciliations at year end and supporting our tax vendor with employee Tax Equalization discussions as required.
Work closely with our tax vendor on all aspects of our engagement, including managing the annual tax return filing for our mobile population, preparing the year end authorization list with support from the global talent mobility team, review and approve out-of-scope requests, review and approve invoices from our tax service provider and be the point of escalation for any service-related issues with Stantec\'s Tax provider.
Review and approve tax equalizations settlement calculations for expatriate employees and ensure tax equalization and tax return balances and paid/recovered in a timely manner. Develop the appropriate processes to streamline the end-to-end tax equalization settlement process.
Lead expatriate tax projects in collaboration with relocation and tax vendors, global payroll and corporate tax functions to ensure we are adopting a best practice approach.
Support the development and continuous improvement of the Global Mobility program by building strong relationships and collaboration with internal stakeholders to develop, govern and maintain Global Mobility policies as it relates to tax.
Drive strategic thought leadership for business tax planning opportunities to minimize risk and exposure to Stantec and employees.
Qualifications

Education and Experience
Bachelor\'s Degree in Accounting or a related field.
Minimum 10 years of Expatriate Tax/Global Mobility tax-related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.
Demonstrated experience with expatriate payrolls, tax equalization policies and new country set-up.
Strong expatriate tax and social security experience in a professional service firm along with some in-house Global Mobility experience is preferable.
In depth US and UK (dual-handler) expatriate tax experience is desirable.
