We are looking for a tax lawyer to join our ambitious, creative, and collegial team in the pursuit of customized solutions at the cutting edge of the law and best practices. Working from our downtown Montreal office, you will be at the heart of a legal practice that values a holistic and innovative approach to tax and estate planning.
Reporting to the Partner and a Senior Associate in the Tax Group, you will be part of a team of experienced and versatile specialists from diverse backgrounds, able to meet the varied needs of our clients in tax matters. This is a unique opportunity to work on challenging and complex projects combining the practice of tax, corporate and estate law.
Main Responsibilities:
Generally, advise and support our clients on the legal and tax aspects of their estate planning and operations, as well as corporate reorganizations, real estate transactions and intergenerational transfers;
Draft legal opinions on highly specialized tax issues;
Draft detailed memoranda setting out legal transactions to be implemented during the planification and analyzing their legal and tax impact;
Draft legal documentation in support of corporate transactions and various commercial contracts;
Draft estate planning documents (wills, powers of attorney, trust deeds, etc.);
Develop and document various transactions in the context of complex estate settlements;
Continue and assist the firm in the continuous updating of knowledge in tax and estate planning;
Contribute to the writing of publications, blogs and participating to podcasts on current tax and estate planning topics.
Skills, Qualities, and Qualifications:
Member in good standing of the Quebec Bar;
Two (2) to five (5) years experience in a relevant field of practice;
Specialized training diploma in taxation (M.Fisc, D.E.S.S. Fisc., Fundamental Tax Course offered by CPA Canada) or relevant experience;
Intellectual curiosity;
Bilingual: English and French, both spoken and written;
High-level legal writing skills;
Collegial nature.

Sous la responsabilite de l'associe et d'un avocat principal au sein du groupe de fiscalite, vous ferez partie d'une equipe de specialistes experimentes et versatiles provenant de divers horizons et en mesure de repondre aux besoins varies de nos clients en matiere de fiscalite. Il s'agit d'une occasion unique de travailler sur des projets stimulants et complexes mariant la pratique du droit fiscal, corporatif et successoral.
Responsabilites principales :
Generalement, conseiller et accompagner nos clients quant aux aspects legaux et fiscaux lies a leur planification successorale, a leurs operations ainsi qu'aux transactions d'achat/vente et de reorganisations d'entreprise, transactions immobilieres et transferts intergenerationnels;
Rediger des avis juridiques sur des points de droit tres pointus en matiere de fiscalite;
Rediger des memorandums detailles declinant les operations legales devant etre mises en place dans le cadre de la planification recommandee et analysant leurs impacts legaux et fiscaux;
Rediger la documentation juridique au soutien des operations de planification;
Rediger divers contrats commerciaux;
Rediger des documents de planification successorale (testaments, procurations, actes constitutif de fiducie, etc.)
Elaborer et documenter diverses transactions corporatives dans le cadre de reglement de successions complexes;
Poursuivre et assister le cabinet dans la mise a jour continue des connaissances en matiere de fiscalite et de planification successorale;
Contribuer a la redaction de publications, blogues, et a la realisation de podcasts sur des sujets d'actualite lies a la fiscalite et a la planification successorale;
Competences et qualifications :
Membre en regle du Barreau du Quebec;
Deux (2) a cing (5) annees de pratique dans un champ de pratique pertinent;
Diplome de formation specialisee en fiscalite (M. Fisc, D.E.S.S. Fisc., cours fondamental; d'impot offert par CPA Canada) ou experience pertinente;
Curiosite intellectuelle et interet marquee pour la fiscalite;
Bilingue : anglais et francais, tant a l'oral qu'a l'ecrit;
Competences de haut niveau en redaction juridique;
Caractere collegial.
