Tax Credit Analyst

Remote, CA, Canada

Job Description

Insert Coin is Canada's leading accounting & tax strategy firm for the video game industry.

As a forward-thinking firm, our culture aligns with the innovative spirit of the gaming and technology industries we serve across Canada. We are a modern, cloud-based firm where we combine deep expertise in tax credits with a no-shortcuts approach to deliver exceptional service to our clients.

Specializing in all things financial and tax for independent game studios, we have cultivated a dedicated and expanding client base through our deep understanding of their business and industry needs.

What you'll be doing:

Insert Coin helps studios claim tax credits like SR&ED along with various multimedia tax credits across Canada. More importantly, we leverage these tax credits to devise strategies that go beyond standard annual claim submission.

You will be supporting this work by:

Master the technical intricacies of tax credit programs across all Canadian jurisdictions, becoming a go-to firm expert. Act as a strategic advisor to indie game studios, helping them maximize their access to the complex tax credit and funding landscape Drive the entire tax credit engagement lifecycle: from performing preliminary financial analysis and compilation of the tax credit applications, to actively defending claims with tax agencies (CRA, RQ etc.) through to assessment

Who we are looking for:

Maybe you're logging the brutal hours on the CPA path, only to realize the 'reward' is just a pipeline of uninspired, repetitive work.

Maybe you're in a traditional firm and you're realizing 'compliance' is just a code word for 'copying last year's file.' You're sharp, but your job only asks you to document, not to think.

Maybe you're tired of surface-level tasks and want to master a complex specialty, becoming a genuine expert that clients rely on for high-stakes, strategic advice.

If this resonates, you're in the right place.

What you need:

Beyond the basics for an analyst role - University degree in accounting/finance, attention to detail, proficiency with Excel/Sheets - we're looking for someone who refuses to coast and isn't happy with 'good enough.'

You don't need extensive corporate tax experience; just bring a basic fiscal understanding and we'll get you up to speed. While these tax credits can seem daunting, they are not hard to master if you put in the effort. We'll provide the support, but we expect you to own your learning.

This role demands a sharp, analytical mindset. You must have the ability to dig into the details, question assumptions, and analyze complex information to determine if it meets program criteria.

Above all, you must be a self-starter who thrives on autonomy. We're not big on micro-management - you will have the freedom to decide how and when your work gets done. With that freedom comes the responsibility to take ownership of your work, manage your deadlines, and know when to ask for help.

Unlike traditional tax roles, we foster a dynamic and engaging work environment, free from conventional formalities. Similar to a startup, we emphasize collaboration, efficiency, and exceptional client service. We are looking for people who share these same values and can contribute directly to our mission in an industry we love.
