The Opportunity
We are currently seeking an experienced
Tax Advisor (Manager or Senior Manager)
(depending on experience) to join our team. In this leadership role, you will be a
trusted advisor
to our clients and a key contributor to our team's success. You will lead client engagements, provide strategic tax guidance, and mentor our team - all within a supportive, people-focused environment that values professionalism and quality. Key Responsibilities
As a Tax Advisor at Best Roest, you will:
Lead and manage multiple tax engagements
for corporations, small businesses, and individuals, ensuring high-quality deliverables and exceptional client service.
Provide proactive tax planning and advisory services
, helping clients navigate complex tax regulations and identify opportunities to optimize their financial position.
Review and oversee the preparation of corporate and personal income tax returns
and related filings, ensuring accuracy, compliance with Canadian tax law, and timely completion of all deliverables.
Supervise, coach, and mentor junior team members
, fostering a culture of continuous learning, open communication, and professional development.
Build and maintain strong client relationships
by acting as a reliable, knowledgeable business advisor who understands their needs and adds value beyond basic compliance.
Stay up to date on tax legislation and industry trends
, and translate that knowledge into practical guidance and innovative solutions for clients.
Contribute to firm-wide initiatives
by identifying ways to improve our tax processes, embracing new technologies, and upholding our high standards of quality and ethics in every engagement.
Qualifications and Skills
You are a results-driven tax professional with:
Credentials
: A
CPA designation
(CPA Alberta or equivalent) in good standing. Additional tax qualifications such as a
Master of Taxation (MTax)
or completion of the
CPA Canada In-Depth Tax Course
(Levels I-III) are strong assets.
Experience
: A minimum of
4 years of relevant public practice experience
in tax (for Manager candidates),
7+ years
for Senior Manager candidates. This experience includes significant focus on corporate and personal tax planning.
Technical Expertise
: Deep knowledge of Canadian tax regulations and compliance requirements, with the ability to identify and resolve complex tax issues. Experience in researching tax issues and preparing advisory memos or opinions is an asset.
Leadership & Management
: Proven ability to
manage multiple projects and deadlines
effectively. Experience leading engagement teams or supervising staff, with strong skills in coaching and providing feedback.
Analytical Skills
: Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a keen attention to detail when reviewing financial information and tax filings.
Communication
: Outstanding verbal and written communication skills. You can explain complex tax concepts in clear terms and build trust with clients through effective consultation and interpersonal skills.
Adaptability
: Self-motivated and able to work independently, as well as collaboratively within a team. Demonstrated ability to adapt in a fast-paced environment and embrace new
digital tools
and
technology
(experience with tax and accounting software such as CaseWare, Tax Cycle, Sage, Karbon, QuickBooks, and advanced MS Office skills).
