(formerly the SPCA Veterinary Hospital) is seeking a dedicated RVT to join our team working in a fast-paced, social enterprise Hospital in Dartmouth, NS. This position has a larger focus on surgical procedures but will also require the necessary knowledge and passion needed for interacting with our clients whilst delivering quality wellness services and preventative medicine. There are also opportunities to be involved with a variety of Nova Scotia SPCA programs that focus on giving back to the community such as participating on our surgical mobile unit and dedicated mobile wellness days.

Qualifications & Experience
Completion of a Veterinary Technology program.
Successful completion of the VTNE and licensed with provincial licensing boards.
1-2 years work experience as VT or equivalent relatable work experience.
Knowledge and experience in proper and safe patient restraint
Knowledge and in depth understanding of medical terminology in a Veterinary setting.
Skills
Patient prep, monitoring anesthesia and patient recovery
Perform dental scaling
Providing education to pet owners
Taking radiographs
Cleaning and maintaining of surgical equipment
Companion animal restraint and phlebotomy
Great interpersonal and communication skills
Experience with Veterinary software, creating bills, and maintaining patient records
Excellent attention to detail
Works well and collaborates in a team-based environment
Knowledge of animal behavior
Knowledge on performing diagnostics on a variety of laboratory equipment.

Physical Requirements
Requires frequent bending, reaching, repetitive hand movements, standing, walking, squatting and sitting, with some heavy lifting, pushing and pulling exerted regularly throughout a regular work shift.
Hours of Work
Work week can be flexible to work within applicants schedule but will be set consistent times each week, some flexibility may be required for occasional vacation coverage. Full time role scheduled hours range between 32 to 40 hours 4 to 5 days per week, with a set schedule to be negotiated with the successful applicant. Please note there is some option for travel that can be discussed if interested.
