Job Description


Overview:
Reporting to the Director, Human Resources, the Talent Development Specialist (the Specialist) will support initiatives and programs intended to enhance the learning, development, and retention of the Northwest Territories Power Corporation\xe2\x80\x99s (NTPC) employees. This will include, but is not limited to, programs such as, succession and workforce planning, talent management, as well as employee and leadership development. This position provides advice and assistance to management to ensure NTPC maximizes its financial investment in training dollars with respect to the development of employees. The coordination of training (discretionary, professional development and continuing education), as well as the maintenance of accurate training records are a responsibility of this position. This is a bargaining unit position. Responsibilities:

  • Actively contributes to the overall employee and leadership development of NTPC employees to support the retention and development of a northern workforce. This will be done by supporting targeted programs and initiatives.
  • Participates in the research, planning, development and coordination of work related to strategic and / or specialized human resource programs to support effective human resources management, programs and operations across the Corporation. This will focus on multiple areas such as: succession and workforce planning, talent management, employee and leadership development, psychological health and safety, and diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Collaborates with management to support the assessment of employee training needs, identify gaps for further development, and support training needs identified through the performance appraisal process and / or other programs created to support employee development.
  • In consultation with management, may develop and coordinate personal, group and / or departmental training plans to meet individual, corporate and legislative requirements and improve skill levels in a cost-effective manner.
  • Works with management to recommend training opportunities to develop core competencies. This will include developing standard training for jobs and / or job levels within the Corporation (e.g., training for new managers, coaching fundamentals for leaders, etc.).
Qualifications:
  • A post-secondary Diploma in Business Administration (HR specialization), Adult Education or other relevant discipline required. Equivalencies may be considered.
  • A minimum of four years recent and related job experience in human resources and / or learning and development is required. Experience will include administrative responsibilities such as, scheduling, document management and overall support for various HR processes, programs, or initiatives.
  • Proficient with the Microsoft Office suite of programs, such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook; as well as Adobe, is required.
  • Experience in administering a Learning Management System (LMS) and/or other databases is preferred.
  • Ability to generate and analyze data to prepare reports with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communications skills.
  • Strong organizational and administrative skills to plan, schedule and coordinate.
  • Ability to interpret Federal and Territorial legislation, acts and codes that relate to the Corporation and its employees.
  • Excellent time management, problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Proven ability to communicate effectively with individuals at all levels of the organization.
  • Able to work efficiently as a part of a team, as well as independently.



Salary for this position ranges from $50.64/hr-$61.53/hr. plus a location allowance of approximately $3,823 per annum.
