Job Summary

WE is seeking a strong, detail-oriented leader to act as Associate Director, Executive Communications and Projects to join the Executive Office. The incumbent will report directly to the Chief of Staff, acting as a trusted advisor to ensure the fulfilment of Executive Office activities and advancement of organizational priorities. The individual will oversee the day-to-day management of the Co-Founder\xe2\x80\x99s communications and operations needs, working closely with senior teams throughout the organization.

ME to WE Leadership seeks several dynamic individuals to work at ME to WE\xe2\x80\x99s Take Action Camp, a social issues-focused week-long leadership camp that takes place over 7 consecutive weeks throughout the summer based out of Bethany Hills, Ontario (1.5 hours from Toronto). This position is to be filled with passionate, responsible, organized and confident individuals who will assist with a variety of different administrative, facilitation, and programming roles. Successful candidates should be knowledgeable about social issues, leadership skills, action planning, and have experience working on teams and directly with youth. Ideal candidates are currently pursuing post-secondary education opportunities such as college and/or university and are involved with the WE Movement. In addition, candidates are highly encouraged to attend Take Action Camp, Advanced Facilitator Training, or an Alumni Trips with ME to WE before applying. We are hiring for this position over the summer months, inclusive of a break each Saturday afternoon-Sunday morning, and a one-week break (dates to be discussed with Take Action Camp Director). A stipend will be paid upon completion of the contract. Room and board will be provided for the duration of the summer, aside from the one-week break (during that you are responsible for own food and housing \xe2\x80\x93 transportation to and from Toronto can be arranged).

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Act as a Counselor for a group of youth (ages 9-12, 13-14 or 15-18). This includes: leading team builders, energizers, and action planning activities; creating bonds with youth to support their development; encourage leadership skills; caring for camper health and first aid; managing group dynamics and camper emotional well-being; escalating issues as needed.
  • Program preparation and execution: organizing supplies, materials and tasks for camp programming as needed.
  • Preparing for eight Toronto Take Action Camp weeks, which may include administrative and facility duties.
  • Assist in executing programming including opening ceremonies, camp-wide challenges, meal-time programs and choice time.
  • Support full-time ME to WE Facilitators in leadership skills, social issues and action planning-focused workshops.
  • Professional Development opportunities will include: program development and execution, group dynamics and conflict management, youth facilitation, goal-setting.
  • Writing, playing and/or performing a skill, and willingness to possibly teach it - music, art, drama, sports, etc.
  • Understanding WE Charity and ME to WE programming
  • Experience teaching, training, or running workshops
  • Travel experience Counselors will report to the Associate Director of Camp Operations, Megan Castrucci, and the Take Action Camp Directors.
Qualifications and Skills
  • 19 years of age or older
  • Standard First Aid and CPR-C certification is required
  • Previous camp experience is considered an asset
  • Proven facilitation skills: ability to plan, create and deliver fun and engaging leadership skills-focused workshops, where participants learn through experiential education techniques
  • Be dynamic, engaging speakers and facilitators with the ability to speak in front of, and interact effectively with, a variety of people from different backgrounds and ages
  • Has a passionate interest in social issues and the motivation to continue learning more
  • Has strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple responsibilities within tight deadlines
  • Possesses excellent communication skills, and is open to giving and receiving regular feedback
  • Has the ability to work effectively and easily individually, in a partnership, and within a team
  • Exercises good judgment when working with youth and is a positive role model for young people
  • Takes initiative, is confident in conflict resolution, is solution-focused and self-directed
  • Positive, flexible and enthusiastic, even under tiring or stressful situations
  • Comfortable with physical activity \xe2\x80\x93 camp-style games often include a lot of movement
