Position Summary:
Fundamentals of city-building in Canada relative to municipal, regional, and provincial actions used to guide urban growth and development. Contemporary urban design in major metropolitan centres as shaped by legal, political, and cultural realities. Current preoccupations in city-building: reurbanisation and adaptive reuse of infrastructure, collaborative multi-stakeholder projects, strategic initiatives, changing relationships between professional experts and grassroots actors. Introduction to specific aspects of practice: public participation and community engagement; land development and real estate; project feasibility and implementation; policy monitoring and evaluation; emergent city-building regimes. The bulk of the T.A.'s time will be devoted to answering students' questions and grading their work (papers and examination); he or she may also give one or more lectures. Principes fondamentaux de la construction des villes au Canada en ce qui concerne les actions municipales, regionales et provinciales utilisees pour guider la croissance et le developpement urbains. Conception urbaine contemporaine dans les grands centres metropolitains, telle qu'elle est faconnee par les realites juridiques, politiques et culturelles. Preoccupations actuelles en matiere de construction urbaine : reurbanisation et reutilisation adaptative des infrastructures, projets collaboratifs multipartites, initiatives strategiques, evolution des relations entre les experts professionnels et les acteurs locaux. Introduction a des aspects specifiques de la pratique : participation publique et engagement communautaire ; amenagement du territoire et immobilier ; faisabilite et mise en oeuvre des projets ; suivi et evaluation des politiques ; regimes emergents de construction urbaine. L'essentiel du temps de l'A.T. sera consacre a repondre aux questions des etudiants et a corriger leur travail (travaux et examens) ; il ou elle pourra egalement donner un ou plusieurs cours magistraux. Qualifications:
The ideal T.A. is a graduate student enrolled in a post-professional or doctoral programme in Urban Planning, Architecture or a related field, who has professional experience, who can demonstrate superior writing skills, and who has a good rapport with students.
